Mixolydian Mode
Mixolydian, just like Lydian has a sweet major sound to it . It is the fifth degree mode of the major scale, so back to our C major scale example
C D E F G A B C
If we start from G (fifth degree) instead of C we'll get the G mixolydian scale. So that would be:
G A B C D E F G
when you goreng this over C major chord it'll sound like a major scale but play it over G major chord and it'll sound different , kinda sweet but not like the major scale..
The scale properties would also be the fifth degree from the major scale's W W H W W W H structure.. this would make the mixolydian scale structure as
W W H W W H W
So let's say we want to apply this to the key of F , then F mixoLydian would be
Code: | F G A Bb C D Eb F
W W H W W H W |
Some ppl will combine this with blues scale (basically minor pentatonic with a flatted fifth ) to get that nice sweet yet bluesy sound .. SRV is a great fan of this scale as evident in texas flood..
well that's all for ..later we'll do the sixth degree mode which is the minor mode , hopefully we'll go into some beginner stuff just to recap things like minor pentatonic , harmonic minor , melodic minor etc
adios! |
