Minor scale or Aeolian Mode

What's up guys...let's go into Aeolian mode. It is the sixth degree mode which has a minor (evil) sound to it . As a matter of fact Aeolian mode has the same structure as the natural minor. So it is the same thing .. Aeolian = natural minor ..so this lesson would be a good theory on minor scale or it can also serve as revision to people who already know this minor scale stuff..

so to get our minor/Aeolian mode , let's go to our C major scale example:

Code:
C D E F G A B C
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1

Minor/Aeolian scale is the sixth degree of the major scale , so basically take that same C major scale ( C D E F G A B C) and start it from the sixth spot up on the scale ( which is note A ) and go up one octave . So from the sixth degree of C major scale you'll get this:

A B C D E F G A

which is basically your A natural minor scale .

Let's look at the minor scale properties . First let's take our major scale progression which is :

Code:
W W H W W W H
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

and go one octave up from the sixth degree and you will get the progression for minor/ aeolian which is:

W H W W H W W

So let say you have somebody doing a rhythm in the key of G with a minor progression . To do your minor scale solo in this case is to find out what's the minor scale for G so just apply the abovementioned minor scale structure ( W H W W H W W ) to G and this is what you will get :

Code:
G A Bb C D Eb F G
 W H  W W H  W W

So that's G minor scale my friend...So for any key ..just apply the W H W W H W W structure and you'll get the minor scale or also known as Aeolian Mode ...That should complete our modes lesson ..there's one mode ( locrian , 7th degree of major scale ) but it is not used for soloing due to its tonal instability ..

maybe we'll do lesson in minor pentatonic later amacam?
