Minor 1 - Minor Pentatonic Scale
what's up guys..here's some stuff on minor pentatonic..but before that make sure you guys know what is natural minor as expained in the article 'Mode 6 - Aeolian Mode/ Minor Scale ' ..
there's different kinds of minor scale , the one we're used to is the natural minor..there's also the harmonic minor and the melodic minor but we'll go into those later on lah...right now we'll stick to natural minor and it's pentatonic scale..
so quick recap , minor scale have this progression/structure ..

An excellent example of minor scale is the A minor

A minor scale is easy to remember because it does not have any flats or sharps..so we'll use that for our pentatonic discussion..
so what is pentatonic eh? pentatonic basically means five tones ..penta = five, tonic = tones ..there five tones derived from the scale has inspired millions of riffs and solos for rock songs..it's one of the easiest scale to learn yet not many ppl quite understand the theory behind it..
so basically minor pentatonic scale is deriving 5 notes from the minor scale .. so let's have our A minor example with their numbering..

Minor pentatonic scale means that only the 1 , 3 , 4 ,5 ,7 notes of the minor scale would be used , giving us the five tones that is needed for this scale..
so from our A minor scale , the 1 3 4 5 7 notes are ( the ones in bold)

so there you have it minor pentatonic..so next time if you guys want to find minor pentatonic..take the key and it's natural minor scale..and find it's 1 3 4 5 7 notes...voila you got your self minor pentatonic..
So when we put these notes on the guitar fret , here's the pattern that we will get:
as you can see from the above fret you'll get this kind of box pattern which can easily be used for other keys..so let's say you want to know G minor pentatonic..all you have to do is slide up that pattern box one whole step ..... enjoy the minor pentatonic amigoss.. |
