Whoa...topic ni ajer pun topic besar. Basically, a scale is an example, the major scale. Modes are derivatives of the scale.Actually, all this is hard to understand from reading jer, unless kita boleh sama sama duduk berdepan pegang gitar(i didnt understand from reading until someone showed me himself as well).
Ok...I think this is an excuse for me to start a new thread titled...'Soloing'...watch this space...nanti aku start the thread...I promise I will address this scales and modes issue.

well i know bode gonna start a thread on soloing tapi biar aku explain setakat mana yg aku tau pasal mode .. i've got some time to kill here in US so might as well write something...

first off you must know what a major scale ,which is the do re mi fa so la ti do .. it's supposed to be a very happy sounding scale as opposed to some of the modes and of course the minor scale ( which some ppl say sounds devilish )

the structure or progression for major scale goes like this
W W H W W W H

I know you are going 'what the helll ?? Ws and Hs? but let's take a few moment to understand what it means..

W W H W W W H

1) W stands for whole step which is basically going up/down two frets on the fretboard , like going from note C to D

2)H - half step is just going up/down one fret . like going from note E to F

so for sake of simplicity let's create our C major scale from the given pattern

when u apply the W W H W W W H pattern starting from C ,
you will get C major scale as shown below..

C -w- D -w- E -h- F -w- G -w- A -w- B -h- C

as you can see starting from C , go up whole step (W) you'll get D , go up another whole step you'll get a E , go up half-step (H) you'll get an F and so on according to the W W H W W W H pattern

so the major scales would be C D E F G A B C
you can try this one your guitar and it will give the that happy sounding doremi scale

the W W H W W W H progression is true for all major scales ..let say if you take F note .. the major scale would be

F-w- G -w- A -h- Bb -w- C -w- D -w- E -h- F

which gives us the F major scale - F G A Bb C D E F

so get a hold on this first :
1)what is major scale
2)it's note progression - the W W H W W W H
3) practice on your guitar

then esok aku citer lagi how all scales (modes , harmonic , melodic minor , etc) are derived from this major scale ... like the phrygian mode which is used by metallica alot in their metal days...now i'm guessing they're more into minor pentatonic / blues scale / dorian mode nowdays with their hard rock crap ..oops did i offend any metallica fans here ..my baddd... Smile

anyway for your guys information metallica bila buat konsert nowadays they wont play any songs from the load-reload album..instead they concentrate on older more metal songs ( pre- Load album) and some new ones from St anger..so go see their concert to those who can see them play ! i know this from their concert last year's summer..

ok lah ..salam dari michigan ..

Omar...well put bro..I wish you were around explaining this to me when I was starting out! Bole minta tolong tak? When I start the thread on Soloing, can I copy paste your explanation(aku bagi credit kat kau la)...then since you explained everything so well, why dont I put you in charge of the theoretical side of scales and modes? Aku tambah2 ler sikit2 kat mana aku bole... Aku tunggu green light ko sajer bro...kalau kau ok..we hit it off! So bro? Ok?

I will concentrate on the application of these scales and modes in real life, and you tackle the theory...amacam?

herm.. nampak nyer korang semua nih suka dgn recording kat studio laa yer.. aku suka gaks, tapi aku lebih suka live recording.. senang sikit keje.. lagi pun kalau kiter setup betul2, kualiti yg baik boleh diperolehi.. tapi kalau record kat studio nih lebih clean bunyi dia.. tapi kalau utk tujuan komersial / utk buat duit tuh okay laa..
mcm aku nih malas nak ambik project kat studio, aku lebih suka live music.. so far dah banyak ribu yg aku dapat dlm setahun nih..

ridzi, ko nih org lama ker? aku tgk ko nih banyak gaks knowledge dlm hal nih.. erm, ko kat mana? keje? jap.. umur ko baper ha??

omar, aku nyer lagu kene delete laa.. i-band's admin kata tuh bukan my original work.. hampeh tul.. biler buat sound elok2, tak nak percaya pulaks.. dia ingat aku cedok hasil kerja org lain.. ntah aper2 ntah..

anyway, good luck kat korang semua..
semoga berjaya..
bye!

leks aa brader Wink

sorry la pasal semalam tu. I've talked to u over the phone and explained to you why right. so hope everything is fine now?

but please do bear in mind that if u're uploading a cover song, just make sure u indicate that it's one and give credits where it's due. For your info, I don't encourage people to upload cover songs. U can do so at www.pub-bands.net. (i'm kidding Laughing )

I just wanted to see people make music. Doesn't matter if he/she is a pro or a 13 years old who recorded his song using a walkman. as long as it's his/her own composition and preferably not signed under any MAJOR labels. Not everybody can have the luxury of having their songs recorded in a proper recording studio.. but most of them out there can definitely make music.

Hope u understand what we here are trying to feature here.

and please don't use the given space for adverts, other than release from your bands.. ie : your demo, EP, album..

Hopefully we can listen to your composition soon.

and... welcome to i-bands Wink

Deadzid,

Lagi pun aku takleh nak justify beli model2 yang atas dia lagi...sebab its the same thing, cuma different I/O's sahaja.

Tapi sekarang ni BBE ada release model baru yang lebih compact dan memang design untuk guitarists, ni dia:- Model DI-1000 dan DI-100x

Because the BBE Sonic Maximizer range of professional audio processors is so popular among music and sound professionals, and the primary reason for visitors to bbesound.com, we first highlight the benefits of BBE High Definition Sound in terms of useage by musicians and sound professionals:

u Natural Musical Realism - music has great "live presence". Unlike some "exciter" devices which add fatiguing artificial harmonics to the signal, BBE adds nothing artificial to the signal but instead restructures it to faithfully allow all the detail and nuance to be heard.

u Full Frequency Operation - Highs frequencies are clearer, naturally brilliant and more finely detailed. Lows are tight, well defined and harmonically rich. All from a single processor with easy two-knob adjustment of the BBE process.

u Speech intelligibility - Sound contractors know that vocal intelligibility is paramount to a successful PA installation and client satisfaction. No other audio processor brings natural clarity and crisp definition to the spoken word like BBE does. That's why BBE Sonic Maximizer processors can be found installed in PA systems ranging from the massive network in New York's JFK airport to the thousands of houses of worship around the world.

u Electric and acoustic guitars - have sparkle, clarity and definition. BBE sound processing brings out the harmonic complexity and bite significantly increases cutting power. Each note of a chord becomes more distinct. Brings guitars out of the "mud".

u Keyboards and synthesizers - take on new realism. Percussive and plucked sounds are clear and sharp, chords are rich and full-textured, each note in the chord retains its integrity.

u Electric & acoustic basses - take on that rich, earthy "CD" sound. Five string players love what it does to the "B" string. Extremely tight, punchy bottom end with all the presence, clarity and bite of the top end.

u Vocals - cut through the amplified instrument so you can be heard better. Lyrics of the sound are no longer "buried in the mix".

u Improves effect processing - expands the spatial dimension of stereo reverb and chorus. Whether in an individual instrument rack or across a full mix, BBE makes a dramatic improvement in the quality of effects and neutralizes their tendency to muffle instrument and vocal characteristics.

u Recording studios, home and professional - use BBE on individual tracks, mixdown, and of course in mastering, BBE brings out the full spectrum of sound. Mixes with BBE are fresh and sparkly. BBE gives you enough sparkle to restore instrument clarity or increase vocal intelligibility without appreciably adding level.

u Broadcast clarity - broadcast facilities all over the the world depend on BBE for the best possible transmission quality. From huge operations such as Japan's NHK to local music stations such as Los Angeles' 94.7 The Wave, BBE has become a necessity for modern quality broadcast quality.
