Ok, I am going to tell you straight from my heart. No personal offence. Other people may not agree with me.
I went through your song, Queen, as well.
I don't like the "dragging" vocal of Runaway but I don't mind the music. It gives me the feeling of tireness...no strength...laziness....I'm not good at describing.... I don't mind if the "dragging" vocal is a bit more "active"/"upbeat"/"angry". Something is missing in the vocal.
I prefer the vocal in Queen although I think the "dragging" part of the vocal needs to be removed too. There is less "dragging" in this song..or it's less obvious. Music wise, it's ok but I prefer it to be heavier/upbeat.
I don't mind "dragging" vocals like My Bloody Valentine, Ride or those bands under 4AD label. I think your voice is more suitable for "angry"/grunge vocal....like Kurt Cobain...
Despite my criticism, this is not the worst band in i-bands. There are many worse ones (I won't reveal the bands).
Keep improving....u will make it to Astro or even BBC one day...good luck.

aiya.. mcm nak stereotyping kan grunge je... hehehe!! aku rase tak perlu ikut care org ( maksud aku influence la..) ... tetiap org ade style sendiri kan.. & every telinga pun terima lain2 ... hehe!!! i'm not defending ronan or everybody ... tapi aku rase kaedah cuba-cuba yang die apply dlm lagu die pun ok... not bad at all...
hanya sekadar pendapat.... hehe!!! _________________ Entwistle custom guitar pickups - Click here!

It's not stereotyping or anything. I am no longer into grunge myself. A lot of Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilot, Soundgarden, etc immitators turn me off. I hate clones.
From what I listen through Ronan's songs, personally I think Ronan's voice is more suitable for "jerit-jerit sikit". He has the rough edge in his voice. I am not asking him to imitate Kurt (perhaps I should not put Kurt's name in the first place). It doesn't have to be the kind of yell that could break a glass or the death metal kind of scream. A bit of "teen angst" as mentioned by Lovelybutterflies is what I mean. It will somehow make the music more up tempo a bit.
This is just a suggestion. It's up to Ronan to decide since this is his band and songs. Who cares if I don't like it... After all, as long as he's having fun recording the songs the way he likes them, I think it's cool. Definitely better than some boys band trying hard to sing a cover song hoping to make more money and climb up the chart. |
