Basically I did the song to test a Shure KSM27 condenser mic I had just bought for field-recording work.
I was so impressed with its brilliant transparency and versatility that I ordered a second one for stereo recording.
I've never been comfortable with my voice so I always add some chorus to whatever vocals I lay down. In this case, I might've gone a bit overboard.
The vocal track was also heavily compressed, with a bit of EQ'ing to reduce sibilance (high cut) and add more body (slight mid boost) to the voice. |

What about the guitar? was it directly connected to your pc or use miking technique with the same mic (shure KSM27)? _________________ Gelanggang guitar : http://guitarden.starahead.com |

A Mexican Strat (with Seymour Duncans) on the left and an American Standard Strat (stock) on the right went direct into a Korg D1200 hard disk recorder which comes with amp-simulated effects.
I probably should've used my old all-tube Laney A3012 Series II, mic'd with an SM57, for a purer tone, but I was a bit lazy at the time.

The KSM27 is probably the best large-diaphragm condenser mic you can buy for around RM1,400.
Yes, it's kinda pricey, especially for home recordists, but with just one you can record everything from vocals, to electric and acoustic guitars, drums etc...
And they're solidly built.
I've used them to record wayang kulit, makyong, manora, main puteri and dikir barat performances in Kelantan.
Everytime I return home and listen to the recordings on my monitors, it's like I'm really there! The mics capture just about every essential detail!
If you ever come into a bit of money in the future, this is one of the first mics you should consider getting.
The solo rebab tracks here -- http://www.i-bands.net/audiovault/bands/1075/music.php -- were recorded with a pair of KSM27s... one for the voice and the other for the instrument.

Basically I'm a freelancer. Besides occasionally reviewing audio equipment for The Star's AudioFile, I help a non-profit organisation called Pusaka -- http://www.pusaka.com.my -- document traditional arts in Kelantan, which are vanishing at a disturbingly rapid pace.
My work mainly involves location sound recording. I usually lug all my stuff, including my portable hard disk recorder, in a backpack on the bus from Butterworth to Kota Bharu whenever performances are organised.
It's fascinating and challenging because many of the performances are open-air affairs, usually held in remote villages. And the atmosphere is exactly like what you'd expect in a typical old-world kampung. A bit chaotic at times but often intoxicatingly festive.
The whole thing's now a partly government-sponsored project, and the audio and video (handled by a special team) recordings will soon be made available to the public at Pusaka's office in KL.
I also help mix and master recordings for friends and their bands whenever I'm not working on my own stuff. |
