secara jujur.. aku prefer main on acoustic since aku tak yah pening2 nak setting effect.
cumanya... best kalau ada orang aja cam na nak set fx, amp etc.
cukup berguna especially zaman2 new age rock nie... heh
n ridzi, perhaps ko leh share cam na nak kasik rhythm yg crisp n tight |

Since Ridzi belum jawab, biar aku sibuk dulu. Sound ni depends on the rig, so aku bagi advise with respect to the settings on my rig. Kalau aku nak dapatkan sound Ridzi on my rig, first thing pakai bridge pickup on the guitar(preferably humbucker). Distortion setting gain secukup rasa, jangan terlalu banyak nanti dia mushy and tak bersih. The tone is pretty much banyak bass and treble but the mids kurangkan(the detailed setting depends on the type of amp, so yg ni kena ubahsuaikan mengikut amp). Kalu boleh jangan letak reverb or delay or any other effects dah...biar dia dry habis...kalau yer pun , reverb cukup cukup makan jer.
Seboleh boleh nyer, gitar pakai string yang paling tebal yang engkau boleh tahan la before jari terkopak! He he! Masa main, make sure right hand and left hand muting string bagus unt make sure permainan bersih.
So, sekarang...kita tunggu bro Ridzi kiter balik keje dan bagi his personal settings pulak...

Ye saya.....!!!
Ok first of all, the most common mistake that guitarists make is what I call the 'scooped too much' mistake.. This is when you try and get a 'big huge sound' to compensate for the lack of a bass guitar. Let the bass guitarist take care of the low-end frequencies
Basically what I am trying to say is a big sound is achieved because of the combination of the bass guitar sound and the guitar sound.
To set up a good, tight rhythm guitar sound, you must bear in mind that the guitar is a mid-range frequency instrument, therefore: to get a sound that 'cuts through' the mix try not cutting the mids too much. thats my general rule. Not using too much gain (distortion)...like Bode mentioned earlier, too much distortion will cause your sound to be muddy and undefined. I would add a little compression after that and finally i would add a Noise gate with an aggresive setting, to cut in as quickly as possible to get that clean, crisp rhythmic sound. This prevents that annoying feedback from happening as well!!!
My general settings on any amp would be
Bass - 1 o'clock Mid - 2 o'clock Treble - 11 o'clock
Gain - 2-3 o'clock
As you can see my settings are mid -heavy, thats because my guitars both have scooped out signals. I tweak these settings depend on the situation...sometimes if Im playing on a stage, the stage becomes like an amplifier...amplifying the bass response, so you have to roll off the bass a bit...Sometimes you have to compensate for every situation.. Trust your ears...
But it doesn't just end there, I also believe that tone is also in the fingers of each individual player. For example, I can play very well on my settings/guitar, but if someone else plays my guitar with my settings, it always sounds like crap...i tried this experiment with my brother...he let me play with his guitar with his settings, and he was astonished, he thinks when i play his guitar with his settings, the sound that comes out is completely different.
In a nutshell, you have to practice playing guitar as cleanly as possible. Practice you palm mutes, practice your left hand mutes (right hand mutes for you lefties like Deadzid) Best playing along to a metronome, starting at a low tempo, gradually moving on to a faster and faster tempo as you advance. This applies both to lead guitar and rhythm, precision has to come first, the speed can come later.

Yup..the old story is definitely true......"your tone is in your fingers".
Similarly,my bro. once saw me doing some 'pinch harmonics' using his low gain fender amp.....and he was like"WOW..mcm mana buat tu???."
Kesian dia ....all these while dia ingat..bunyi camtu only achievable when played thru high gain preamps.
So sbg abg..aku pun ajar dia mana nak cari 'sweet spot' kat gitar tu...dan cam mana teknik nak attack string tu.... dan etc.etc. _________________ http://suicide-by-overdrive.fotopages.com |

I have just uploaded two new jazz fusion tunes on these sites below :
http://www.mp3.com.au/Bode'sNoiseBox/
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/9/bodesnoiseboxmusic.htm
These songs were taken from the upcoming movie 'Bintang Hati', so there are movie sounds and bits and pieces in both songs.
One of the tunes, 'Breeze', is availble on our page on i-bands. I can't fit both songs into my i-bands page due to the fact that I have used up all the given space. Hope you enjoy it! |

Bode ! Your solo on Shyboy was awesome man, extremely rocking stuff indeed. Your tapping technique is phenomenal, just like your sweep picking.
Great stuff indeed ... pls keep them coming ! |

Well I'm harmless, really. I've still got so much more to learn from pros like yourself. I don't think I've heard any Malaysian guitarist play like you can. If you are going to have any live performances, please feel free to let me know .. |
