Ini tahun lepas punya cerita. Aku pun sampai sekarang musykil kenapa MOBO tu terbakar(bukan keluar api tapi keluar buih putih dari komponen2).

update on my home-studio project...
pada hari sabtu lepas, aku pegi SMX dan beli M-Audio FireWire Solo!!! hehehe list price RM870, after 10% discount - RM786!
pc tak setup lagi, tapi audio card dah beli dulu! hahahaha... haram takleh guna pun sbb takde pc yg ade firewire card + windows XP!

tapi sekarang nih tgh pening kepala nak kumpul duit utk setup pc yg power! hehehe... plastic+kotak firewire solo tu pon aku tak bukak lagi, sayang le, tunggu dah siap pc baru rasmikan heheh..

Zid ko budget berapa untuk pc(tak masuk monitor?) aku ingat nak trade pc aku ni nak angkat baru.. pc aku ni power utk main game je .. recording kureng sikit sebab aku pakai soundblaster. Aku baca ada baca kalau pakai apa2 jenama soundblaster tak bagus sebab dia "rate locked" pada 48khz. Tapi pd aku utk beginner tak ada apa salahnya heh..

Bukan paling tinggi.. tapi sampling rate telah dilocked pada 48,000 je. Walaupun later on kita boleh downsample to 44.1 tp berisiko noise. But this is not a big problem for beginner mcm aku. noisenya pun aku tak dengar pun? aku pakai soundblaster gak..

<b>1. Set up the best monitoring system possible!</b>
Make sure you have the best powered monitors you can afford as that will enable you to RECORD exactly what you HEAR! And REALLY HEARING what you're recording makes a huge difference! Also, don't forget to place the speakers properly in a reflection-free (away froms walls!) environment -- ideally on firm stands, sideways, woofers in, tweeters out!
<b>2. Don't stinge on the soundcard!</b>
A good soundcard meant specifically for pro-level audio with balanced 1/4" or digital outs (get good cables for these) is ABSOLUTELY necessary if you want relatively noise-free sound. The ESI Juli@ (under RM700/comes with optical out, coax in/out and MIDI breakout cable) on my PC now is by far the best-sounding soundcard I've come across in its price range.
<b>3. Bits don't always byte!</b>
For most rock and pop music, it doesn't really matter what resolution you're recording in. What's MOST important is OPTIMIZING the signal during the tracking process through subtle compresssion, limiting and EQ'ing (oops, just gave away a trade secret!). 16-bit/44kHz is more than adequate for most home recording needs. Heck, I've done pretty decent recordings on one of those MP3 players/recorders the size of a pack of chewing gums. Go figure!

hmm juli@ under RM700.. recommended by the synthman.
something worth considering. In need to change my soundcard anyway. I'm now using mostly for keyboards.. with Vsti and samples. but since later in the near future, I have to record guitars & bass.. the current setup won't do lah.
need to get good cables as well.
