aku cadang nak install Buzz Feiten kat gitar aku.. tapi nak tanye pendapat korang.. is it worth it?? coz it's quite expensive just to replace the nut and do some intonation + tuning work!

for your info, Buzz Feiten system nih guna utk setup gitar so that it will always be in correct tune, anywhere on the fret... kalau tak salah aku la... and then dia ada special tuner (from Korg) utk tune gitar yg dah di 'Fieten' kan, so nak kena beli tuner la pulak... nampak mcm berguna, tapi rasa macam tak berbaloi pasal dgn harga around RM200++ (i think), you'll only get:
  1. Bone Shelf Nut installation (with Buzz Feiten logo on it)
  2. intonation setup
  3. serial number + sticker?? (kira mcm sijil la nih)

Quote:
The Problem - Your guitar doesn't play in tune
Tune an E chord at the first fret so it sounds in tune with itself. Now play the A and D chords and at least one or two notes are sharp or flat. No matter how carefully you tune your guitar, you can't compensate for this 'brick wall' in intonation. So you play around the bad notes or avoid certain notes and chords altogether. Besides cramping your technique, it's a constant annoyance when performing or recording.

The Reason - Standard intonation is not pleasing to the ear
Guitars are designed and built using a standard formula for intonation and nut placement. Each string is intonated only to itself resulting in an attempt to create perfect, mathematical intervals. Piano tuners abandoned the use of perfect mathematical intervals over 400 years ago because it simply is not pleasing to the ear. Instead, piano strings are 'stretch tuned' so that the intonation is pleasing anywhere on the keyboard. The resulting 'tempered' tuning is superbly musical, and most important, in tune with the ear at all intervals. A properly tuned piano provides the absolute pitch reference for all instruments.

The Solution - The Buzz Feiten Tuning System
Inspired by the piano's tempered tuning, the Buzz Feiten Tuning System is a revolutionary intonation model for guitar that intonates each string not only to itself, but also to every other string. Furthermore, to eliminate sharpness in the first three frets, the nut is moved a prescribed distance closer to the bridge. The result - play any note, any chord, anywhere on the neck and you'll be in tune. And, it doesn't change the way your guitar looks or plays.

another option is the Earvana compensation nut (used on LTD's) tapi tak tau ada ke tak dealer kat mesia nih... by the way, Buzz Feiten punya authorized / trained dealer is The Guitar Store...

Macam best je.. kalau ko adalah orang yang mementingkan tone, stability dan consistency, aku rasa bagus jugak kalau ko cuba (kalau ada budget la).

Anyway thanks for the info..

haha... cara yg senang, cubalah gitar washburn. buzz feiten system is standard on all of their guitars, and they are the only major guitar maker to do so.

Zid, aku rasa berbaloi la, sebab haritu aku tanya kat guitar store, setup biasa pun kena dalam RM150. Kalau camtu aku nak tukar nut LTD aku laa... Intonation aku kat guitar tu sekarang bloody horrible, sebab hari tu aku rendahkan action guitar aku tuh...

err actually semalam aku gi Guitar Store kat Cheras tu... harga utk installation Buzz Feiten is RM499... freakin' hell... membazir je, baik beli EMG pickups instead! and then, there will be a problem if you wish to change to a different string gauge.

by the way aku dah beli GFX-5 semalam! yee haa... tapi tak sempat nak play around, sampai rumah je terus simpan, gi kenduri, pastu balik rumah balik terus tidor.. zzzzzz... tak sabar nak balik rumah cepat hari nih!

Cool...by the way, aku dah baca pasal Earvana compensated nut. Dia kata, tak payah ada special tuner. Tune guitar macam biasa je... It seems that that is a better choice lah. Besides, dia kata it is 75% cheaper than the competition...

the problem is, kat mesia nih takde authorized dealer for Earvana... kan?

by the way, since GFX-5 tu around rm800 je, so aku kena tambah barang lagi sampai jadi RM1000 (so that boleh dapat Maybank 0% interest EZ payment plan..) so i ended up beli Planet Waves cables, satu yg circuit breaker model (RM120), satu yg classic series (RM58 - mahal cam pundek, kat bentley boleh dapat RM40 je before discount)... u should check those cables out too, it's really cool, low-noise!

L-R: The Circuit Breaker Cables & Classic Series Instrument Cables

Quote:
Planet Waves' Circuit Breaker™ cables have a built-in mute switch to save your equipment from loud pops and squeals when you change guitars with a live amp. When the button is pushed, the cable shorts while remaining plugged into your guitar, making on-stage guitar changes a snap. Once the cable is shorted, remove the cable from the guitar being used and plug the cable into the next instrument. Press the button again to re-activate the cable signal.
