correcto mundo. to be precise a les paul custom black beauty (black beauty ni mcm2 ada: ada yg 2 pickup la, ada pakai p90s la). aku angkat in 1997 (the guitar has been dated to be a 1996), kat newcastle for £311. masa tu exchange rate murah sikit, rm5=£1 kot. so, kat rm1500 cam tu la.

pickup aku tukar ke seymours pasal epi punya microphonic sgt.

i have also discovered another piece of info. pickups are dipped in wax to reduce microphonic noises. then, even after placing the covers, the pickups are rewaxed with the covers.

hehehe. i dont have the facilities to do that. but the the seymours were so tightly snug (had difficulty initially to put them on), i guess there werent be that much air in betw the pickup and the cover.

besides, i've played the gtr loud enuff and quite near my amp. no noise!!!
the pickups are a little subdued thanks to the covers, but still has the bite of a jb!!

hello... ni ada satu kemusykilan.. harap anda semua dapat membantu...

memandangkan aku tgh dlm perancangan (atau berangan) nak beli set pickup seymour duncan Hot Rodded Humbucker, so ni aku nak tanya satu benda...

lets say lepas aku install pickup togel nih kat warlock aku, then aku nak pasang balik pickup cover BC Rich asal aku tu, boleh ke? i mean what are the implications of doing so?
  1. susah ke nak tanggalkan cover tu dari pickup asal?
  2. sound duncan tu akan terjejas ke kalau pasang cover ni?
thanx!

deadzid: kalau kau tgk pickup ori BC rich tu ada tak gam/solder? you can see it once you take the pickup out of the guitar (check bawah). kalau ada maknanya jgn harap la nak cabut. my original epi pickups had that too. so masa hotrod jadi seymour duncan, togel la. pickup covers yg aku tulis ni aku order (mmg brand seymour jugak so that aku tau guarantee muat).

sebaik2 nya bila dah pasang cover kena dip in wax sekali lagi and solder/glue baik2. dua2 ni aku tak buat pasal so far no hal. ketat jugak.

org cakap bunyi dia sikit mellow bila ada cover. satu disadvantage kalau tak re-wax sekali dgn cover is the potential for it to be microphonic (macam pickups epi aku yg dulu). wax tu displace all the air pockets antara pickup cover dgn the actual pickup. so far aku tak re-wax, no probs.

one thing, rewaxing ni org yg reti bikin pickup, ada equipment dia la. i dont think cucuh lilin then dripping on the pickup works. hahaha.

hope this helps.

Quote:
WAX POTTING

The first part of the potting process. The newly wound coils are immersed in a mixture of paraffin and melted bee’s wax that eliminates air pockets that cause microphonic feedback. The potting process takes about an hour, or until all of the air bubbles have stopped coming from the coils; then they’re whipped out of the pot and left to cool and solidify.

PREPARING THE BASEPLATE AND COILS

Braided two-conductor wire and four fly-leads are attached to the baseplates. The coils are fitted with adjustable screw polepieces and slug poles, and attached to the baseplate. Pole shoes provide a stable base for each coil and the magnet to rest against, allowing the magnetic field to travel up through the poles to the strings. With the coils and Alnico Four magnets fitted, everything is screwed down and soldered together.

Vintage-style maple spacers support the outside edge of each coil before they are screwed onto the baseplate, just like the original Gibson PAFs (‘patent applied for’, as stamped on originals).

STEP 5: SOLDERING ON

All of the solder joints are insulated with rubber heat-shrink material, before the nickel covers are clamped into place and soldered on. Besides holding the covers in place, the solder also acts as an earth.

STEP 6: BATH TIME

The pickups are treated to a second wax bath that permeates the entire assembly. This is essential or else the pickups will squeal worse than fans at a Westlife gig. Once the air gaps are filled with wax, the pickup is cleaned and polished before fitting onto the guitar for testing.
