Ibanez Artcore line now meets the definition of true "jazz boxes", the old musician's slang term for the large-bodied full-hollow guitars first used in jazz.
The more traditional of these offerings is the Artcore AF84EDVS. This model features just one "floating" pickup--the pickup sits over, not in, the body--and the guitar lacks the cutaway in the body found in later instruments, which contributes to the instrument's traditional look and sound.
AF84EDVS Features:
* Available Finish DVS Dark Violin Sunburst
* Body Material Spruce Top and Flamed Maple Back and Sides
* Body Dimensions 70mm at tail
* Neck Material 3pc Mahogany/Maple/Mahogany Artcore DX
* Neck Scale 24 3/4"
* No. Frets/Type 22/Large
* Fingerboard Bound Rosewood
* Inlay Artcore DX
* Bridge - Rosewood traditional
* H/W Color - Chrome
* Neck Pickup - Ibanez Floating Mini-Humbucker
* Controls -One tone, One volume
* Other Special Features -Non-cutaway Body
* US MSRP: $529.99
The other offering, the AK75DGD, hearkens to slightly more recent times as it does sport a cutaway, two set-in-the-body pickups and a fancy gold finish.
AK75DGD Features:
* Available Finish - GC Gold
* Body Material - Maple top, back and sides
* Body Dimensions - 70mm at tail
* Neck Material - Mahogany
* Neck Scale - 24 3/4"
* No. Frets/Type - 22/Large
* Fingerboard - Bound Rosewood
* Inlay - Pearl Block
* Bridge - Rosewood
* H/W Color - Chrome
* Neck Pickup - ACH1 Humbucker
* Bridge Pickup - ACH2 Humbucker
* Controls -Two volume, Two tone
* Other Special Features - Wood bridge
* US MSRP: $439.99 |

Trey Anastasio of jam band Phish has joined forces with C.F. Martin to create an acoustic guitar worthy of his name: the Martin DC Trey Anastasio Signature Edition.
A Dreadnought body with a smoothly curved Venetian cutaway allows for easy access to the upper frets. Solid tonewoods yield an exceptionally clear, full tone, enhanced with a top of rare Italian alpine spruce, East Indian rosewood sides and a three-piece back with "wings" of East Indian rosewood and a center wedge of beautifully flamed Hawaiian koa. A 1-11/16" (at the nut) low profile genuine mahogany neck provides playing comfort. Distinctive appointments include a flamed Hawaiian koa headplate with eye-catching headstock and fingerboard inlays. It's a practical guitar that looks and plays as good as it sounds, and it is offered in two configurations: either with Fishman's acclaimed onboard Ellipse Blend System that delivers superb live and recorded sound, or for the more traditional player, without the onboard electronics package.
Martin's mortise and tenon construction and 5/16" "Hybrid" scalloped bracing give the DC Trey Anastasio Signature Edition solid feel and tone. Fine herringbone encircles the top, an understated complement to the Style 45 rosette with its center ring of colorful paua shell. Multicolored Style 45 mosaic back strips add to the drama of the back tonewoods, while the grained ivoroid binding, end piece and heel cap are accented with black/white line inlays.
Both the headstock and the fingerboard are similarly bound in grained ivoroid and accented with back/white inlays. The koa headplate provides the backdrop for a unique Style 45 C.F. Martin block letter inlay in black micarta. The black ebony fingerboard features the distinctive diamonds and squares abalone pearl inlay first seen on a 1922 00-42 Martin made for the Wurlitzer Company: a Maltese cross at the 3rd fret, two diamonds at the 5th fret, a square at the 7th fret, two diamonds at the 9th fret, a square with cat's eyes at the 12th fret and a cat's eye at the 15th fret. Trey Anastasio's signature is inlaid in mother of pearl between the 18th and 20th frets. The belly bridge is also crafted from black ebony, as are the buttons on the Schaller gold mini tuners.

Martin's traditional attention to detail shows in the bone nut, compensated Tusq drop-in saddle, vintage hue top, polished gloss body and headplate finish, polished and beveled tortoise color pickguard, and white bridge and end pins with abalone dots (gold end pin jack on Ellipse model).
Packed in a vintage-inspired Geib style hardshell case, each DC Trey Anastasio Signature Edition guitar bears an interior label personally signed by Trey Anastasio and Martin Chairman C. F. Martin IV, and numbered in sequence with the edition total. Authorized C. F. Martin dealers will take orders for the DC Trey Anastasio Signature Edition until September 23, 2005. The edition total and the names of participating dealers then will be posted on the Martin website.

Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx has teamed up with Ovation Guitars for the Limited Edition Elite T Bass which he designed.
When Nikki approached Ovation about building a custom bass, they took on the project with a vengeance and built an acoustic/electric bass that would best reflect Sixx's notorious monster sound. The result, a collaboration between Sixx and Ovation, launches the first Limited Edition acoustic/electric bass that Ovation has ever produced.

Ovation's Elite T Bass by Nikki Sixx (model NSB-778-RFT and NSB-778-GFT) features a Spruce top with custom Red Flame finish (also available in Gray Flame finish) and Ebony fingerboard with MOP Maltese Cross inlays. Sixx's signature blazes across the headstock and each bass features a label hand-signed by Nikki Sixx, inside the bass body. Electronics are powered by a customized Ovation Op-Pro preampl

Acoustic guitar kits from Stewart-MacDonald are (apparently) handmade in the USA and available in Dreadnought style or the smaller Triple-O body, with traditional dovetail neck joints or bolt-on necks.
Features include 2-way adjustable truss rod, slotted ebony fingerboard, precision machined neck, a joined/profiled solid spruce top, joined/profiled solid rosewood or mahogany back, plus solid sides already bent to shape. Other features are a genuine bone nut and saddle, all necessary bindings, pre-shaped and sanded soundboard and back braces, along with detailed blueprints and the company's own step by step video, Building An Acoustic Guitar. Machine heads and strings are not included.
US$340 for Mahogany and US$390 for Indian Rosewood.

I have an Epiphone Hummingbird. Got it off eBay for 1/32 the price of a Gibson bird. Yet, it is a pretty decent effort by Epi for the rest of us. The neck is a bit too fat and the fretboard is a little rough; but they ain't that bad at all. Plus, it's got the look.
Despite it's popularity, I rarely see big names playing it, so far. I saw a video of Jimmy Page playing Bon-Yr-Aur-Stomp (?) using a Hummingbird on Japanese TV. Then that Van Wilder guy played it on Almost Famous. Oh and I think Elvis used to play the Hummingbird's cousin, the Dove.
Nonetheless, it is still the fingers that matters. Hoho.

My buddy asked me if I wanted to buy a second hand Ovation.
I told him to take it to Balakong.
So they could return the fibreglass to it's intended use...water tanks. |

you mean something like this:
the brand is called Elite (made in Korea) - it costs me RM800 for a lefty version. Normal ones should be cheaper! bought it at Guitar Collection (or was it Guitar Store??) at Sunway Pyramid.
ada satu acoustic yg lagi nipis, shape mcm electric guitar kaler hitam, takde lubang tengah tu tapi sound kureng menyerlah... RM900. _________________ > facebook
