For me it has to be the Roland Jupiter 8: http://www.vintagesynth.org/roland/jup8.shtml

I rented one for a week (at RM10 a day, it was like a basikal kampung) from a shop in Penang in the mid-'80s to record a cassette album on my Tascam Portastudio.

It not only had fabulously fat, fruity, filter-rich sounds but was also a dream to program.

Very Happy

It's getting kind of lonely out here. So please dudes, jump in and tell us about the synth that turned you on the most.

Only about 2,000 units were made in the early '80s and more than half of those are probably dead by now, though my Audiofile buddy Lohan was lucky enough to find one which is alive and kicking.

But it's an analogue classic that's remembered for some of the richest synth sounds ever recorded.

Most of the synths made today, including all Korg keyboards and modules, are digital.

What's the difference between analogue and digital?

It's like comparing a classic Fender or Marshall tube amp with a modern DSP amp that offers modelled sounds. Smile

Anyways I saw a Moog Synth on a Malaysian TV performance on Saturday

It was the AF7 Musical Director Achis, I think he was playing a Moog Voyager.

Man, those things must cost RM10k n above. Analog but monosyth????
