So what does all this mean? Put simply, proper gain staging is essential to both analog and digital mixing. You just need to correlate the references between the two. Once you figure this out, I'll Guarantee your mixes will start to sound open and wide, just like the good old analog days.

yg ni je yg aku faham.... heehe

ITB = In The Box, maksudnye mixing dalam PC. kata lain digital

OTB = Out The Box, outboard mixing. pakai console.kata lain analog

Very Happy tu je kot dari pemahaman aku

Didn't read the article, but I do know that the correct practice of digital recording levels is to aim for the region of -18dBFs to -20dBFS. DO NOT follow the practice of recording as "hot" as possible. That was a BAD practice that carried on from the days of 16-bit digital audio. With current 24-bit converters there is more than enough resolution.

The problem is due to most prosumer A/D converters do not sound good when driven hard due to inadequate power supply (it's a very LONG topic, which I won't go into).

So to cut it short, when recording watch your meters, try to aim for the average signal level to be around 30%-50%. Yes, the waveform will look very small but your digital recordings will now sound cleaner and less harsh.
