ok to understand pasal speed rating, u have to disregard totally what Pentium has marketed all this while, which is
HIGHER GIGAHERTZ PROCESSORS DO NOT MEAN THEY ARE FASTER.
*gasp* yes. its true!.
Infact amds run at clock speed substantially slower than pentiums yet execute faster. Think of it like this..bayangkan AMD ni macam godzilla, pas tu Pentium ni macam comic character THE FLASH. katakan ada 10 ribu biji batu nak kene alih dari satu temapt ke satu tempat lain(data). THe flash will go.."hey aku laju! jap je aku angkat"..pas tu dia gile babi laju zip zap zip zap angkat samapi beratus pusingan patah balik. Godzilla ni slow sikit tapi dia cakap.."aku angkat sekali je la" ..habis cite. Now do you understand what i mean by that statement?
Now, what defines the horspower of a CPU is not its speed, but the make-up of all the details of the CPU (that Intel marketing rarely discloses or severely downplays) including cache size, memory handling units, floating point precision, number of pipelines..etc etc ect. A regular consumer usually wouldnt be aware of this and will no doubt fall prey for the 'THE CPU HAS BIGGER NUMBERS SO ITS FASTER MAH!' ploy.

its because the athlon 1.8 ur looking at is a 64bit processor compared to the penitum 4 which is a 32 bit processor. In terms of performance, sadly the pentium lags behind severely because u see, if you rate the AMD in 'PENTIUM TERMS', it would be more or less classified in the 3ghz++ range eventhough it runs at 1.8 ghz...think Godzilla. Did i mention its 64 bit too?
I dont recommend for u to look for the northwood processors since they are old technology and getting phased out quick. Ever seen/heard ppl able to over clock their pentiums from 2 ghz to 4-5 ghz? those were all using the Northwood P4 cores. intel stopped that from happening with the next stepping release. Besides, the socket 775 board seems to have a lot of potential. I think those boards are 64 bit capable... but im not sure.

Aku pun pakai Athlon XP, aku memang puas hati ngan AMD processors dari dulu lagi...tak pernah ade problem...in fact PC aku memang susah nak crash...seminggu sekali pun susah...

ok, i got what u mean.. tapi lagi banyak kau explain, lagi pening aku nak buat decision... camni la, cuba ko tgk spec yg aku plan nak beli nih:- Pentium IV 2.8GHz (socket LGA775/HT Tech/1MB Cache/800 FSB) - RM595
- Intel Mainboard (socket LGA775/DDR400/VGA/Sound) - RM370
boleh tak ko bagi spec Athlon yg sama/lebih power + lebih murah dari spec kat atas tu? and then aku ada terbaca utk recording work nih, mainboard kena pakai intel chipset, VIA cannot go! so please suggest me something... pening tahap kritikal dah nih...

Ambik XP je Zid..... Pentium lecehlah.... aku tengok adik aku nye PC selalu je hanging....padahal semua hardware dia lagi power dari aku...

athlon64@2800 = +- $470
939 board (nforce 4 chipset ) = +- $480 (murah lagi bleh kot, tgk specs ko nak)
kau tahu kan with 775 and 939 boards graphic card lama tak leh pakai kan? dia tak de AGP port, which is what current graphic cards pakai. Instead dia ada PCIexpress port, and u need to get a PCIexpress graphic card to run it.
VIA tu buang laut la bagus. VIA develope chipsets for both AMD and INTEL ..tak leh pakai laa. |

hmmmm aku tgk Athlon 64 @ 2800+ (1.8GHz) tu pakai socket 754... so kenapa ko suggest mainboard 939?? boleh masuk ke? ish susah gak nak carik mainboard socket 754 yg bukan VIA chipset nih...
hmm kira spec AMD boleh murah dlm range RM100 je la dari spec intel.. betul ke?

| AMD64 ada 2 jenis, 754 and 939. Aku pakai 754 which is an old model. New models semua pegi 939 board. ko kene check which board dia masuk. 754 boards kebanyakkan pakai Nforce 3 (Nvidia chipset)..like what im using..senang la nak cari. 939 baords pakai nforce 4 chipset. |

aku sokong jeff... zid baik ko amik AMD zid... ternyata AMD lebih bagus dari INTEL.... cuba ko bayangkan la zid ko dpt contract deal .... 1 dari major label e.g EMI..... 1 lagi small label e.g NAR... but u know both are mainstream label..... ko rasa nak pilih yg mana? EMI yg ade berjuta artis ke... atau NAR yg ade dlm 10 org artis..... yg mana akan bagi ko lebih kepuasan.... hehheehhe ( saje je nak tiru idea cite godzilla dan the flash si jeff)

jeff.. ada ke pentium III 2.0? setahu aku pentium III sampai 1 gig jer..
aku pun setuju dgn AMD faster tp kena upgrade cpu fan. Problem AMD aku sekarang ni asik kelaur alert je yg mengatakan CPU dah nak meletup sebab panas.. Ke software tu yg gila pun tak tahu la.. kalau gila aku hantar pi tg rambutan je nanti..tampoi ker..

perghh board 939 (nForce chipset) paling murah pon RM400++... processor memang le murah (socket 754), tapi dia up harga kat mainboard pulak! cipet!
