Thanks Bode!

Hi MiN, yup, I did study with Eric twice during his guitar workshops in the UK. They were very inspiring and I learned a lot. It's cool that you've met Guthrie, I haven't heard much of his stuff besides through the mag as well. Yes, I've met and learned a few things from Thomas Leeb during Eric's frist workshop. Thomas Leeb is incredible. I still keep in touch with him, he's based in LA now.

Dude, are u in KL now? We should meet up! Come to one of the shows and we can hang out afterwards man!

Cheers.
Az

Hi omarjamaludin, this is a reposting from my news page on i-bands, (just posted it just now) about my upcoming gigs (and the workshop too!)

-----
Hi everyone!

I'll be performing at these upcoming gigs! Hope you can make it!

July 30, 3pm - Macam-Macam Ada @ Paul's Place

August 5, Friday, 9pm - Shelley Leong & Jazz Odyssey @ The Mont Kiara Jazz & Rhythm Fest

August 7, Sunday 2-4pm: Acoustic guitar workshop (Az!) & Vocal workshop (Shelley Leong!) at The Music Hut. Bandar Damansara Perdana.

Call: 03 7710 9198. or 012 6510445 for bookings and directions. They are sponsoring most of it, so the entry price for these 2 very educational and fun hours is kept at an affordable RM10.

I'll be sharing tips on how I write (and play) my compositions and on fingerstyle guitar basics to beyond. If there's been anything you've wanted to ask me about how I play/think/improvise (and watch me explain while playing it!) , this workshop would be the best time.

Shelley will be sharing vocal tips on breathing techniques, relaxation, warm ups, myths about singing and introduction to vocal improvisation. Her aim is to also help non-vocal majors (i.e. guitarists etc, who wish to start singing or sing better).

Hope to see you there!

Best Regards,
Az

Hi MiN,

I enjoyed the classical guitar thingy, reminds me of Al DiMeola stuff. Have you heard his more recent Tango/world music albums? Would love to hear more of your acoustic stuff (in a song/ along with a backing track maybe?)

Also love the "Get Real" solo, especially the bit around 0:39-0:42. The flow of the solo and the buildup is real nice. =)

Hi omarjamaludin, yup, loooking forward to meet you at the workshop! (And do tell other friends who might be interested ya! kikiki...)

You're coming to Newark? Cool, I'll be back in Boston around September 4, so anytime beyond that do give me a buzz if you're coming down. A lot of performances usually happen in Berklee (and Boston) so you can catch a show or just hang out as well!

Best Regards,
Az

Hi Krik, Thank you for the kind words! Nope, Kaki King is not my girlfriend! Hahahahahaa. But I would love to take some guitar lessons from her!

Hi omarjamaludin, interesting comments on the harmony! It could have something to do with the fact that this is one of my songs in an alternate tuning (DADGAD). It's a tuning that I learned from my teacher Eric. In terms of inspiration, this particular song was in fact written after meeting, learning and watching Eric Roche play. For more info on him, check out : www.ericroche.com Other major influences include Michael Hedges www.nomadland.com , Don Ross www.gobyfish.com and Pierre Bensusan www.pierrebensusan.com

Hi MiN, I wish I had some tracks of just me playing backing track sorta things. I do that kind of thing really lo fi for my own practice purposes! Been learning to play the jazz tunes that I do for the band I normally play as part of (Jazz Odyssey led by Shelley Leong).

Any idea on what kind of progression, feel, vibe? Might come out with something! hihihi.

Hi bro,

errmmm...since you r into jazz....2-5-1? but hey if you do a jazz progression i might end up playing something embarassing....kwekwkekwek

why not you do a typical malay song progression...but make it into something catchy with attitude and do some comping into it....some chord melody......but no typical chords like they always do.....play all those chord voicing you normally do....and i will try to play some lines into it....and if its good maybe we can post it into the main page...
