<b>Mr G</b>, the 24-bit/192kHz Juli@ is really a fabulous soundcard. Comes in a cool white package and has been receiving rave reviews in computer music magazines.
I like the fact that it has an optical out (IMO, they're superior to coaxials!) in addition to the coaxial in/out, and has stereo gold-plated 1/4-inch input jacks. Plus it supports all the major formats, including ASIO 2.0 & MME.
<b>Izzy</b> (hope you don't mind me calling you that), for you something like M-Audio's Audiophile 2496 should be excellent. And the RM455 price tag (at SMX) is very reasonable considering that it was going for almost double the price a year back. This is really a pro-standard card bro. You should seriously consider it!
On the downside, it only has phono ins/outs (you'll hear a faint noise on headphones if the cables are not properly shielded) and doesn't have an optical out (only coax I/O). Also, unlike the Juli@, it's old (but trusted and highly reliable) technology.
IMO, sub-RM400 soundcards aren't generally great for multi-track recording.
As for Behringer, I would recommend the Truth B2031, though they're gonna cost more than RM1000. Great for mixing rock and dance but not so great for acoustic stuff.
Oops, just realised I have a deadline to meet! I'm outta here for the moment... |

Omar : Yeah... aku rasa itu lah yg sebaiknya. since barang2 lain banyak dah ko nak supply nih. segan pulak aku.
izzy (nice one).. konsep beli yg murah dulu then baru upgrade mmg ideal utk beginners. but.. ko ni aku rasa sure cepat pickup ni. takut nanti mender2 ko nak b uat di limitkan pulak oleh soundcard kau. dah leceh.
about beringher speakers.. synthdude ada cakap. for that range of price.. mmg sangat memadai. aku pun ada tanya sound engineer kat 101 studio, dia pun kata macam tu jugak. especially for home studio. _________________ [ Kluk Kluk Adventure ] | [ Call the Paramedics ] | [ Dot ] | [ AJEEPEK ] |

maybe aku budget around RM1000 - RM1500, depends pada market price.. actually aku nak tunggu Pentium IV 2.8GHz (with HT technology) turun harga sampai RM400++ (hehe boleh ke)...
aku sebenarnya nak upgrade 4 barang je: processor, motherboard, ram, harddisk.. accesories lelain yg tak penting sangat mcm flat panel monitor, dvd writer, etc tuh kemudian2 la kita upgrade slow2... tapi tu la aku mmg dah plan nak eli studio monitor.. mcm mana ajeep boleh tau nih?? hish.. _________________ > facebook

i went to Jln Pasar (jln Landak to be precise) just now and saw this electronic store with big "PEAVEY" & "BMB" signboard outside... so i went in and asked about Behringer monitors.. the model you've mentioned is about RM2000+ (active) and about RM1700+ for the 2031P (passive).. it's too expensive for me.. i was hoping for something below RM500 like M-Audio's Studiophile DX4.. what do u guys think about this shit??
details here

eh kalau dah manjangkau RM2000 tambah skit jek boleh dapat powered monitor yg lagi elok dari beringher if I'm not mistaken. Kevin Nexusasia pernah recommend aku a pair tapi aku lupa apa brand.. around RM2400. I trust that dude wouldn't sell any crappy product.
zid : aku pun ada tanya2 orang pasal m-audio monitors ni. for professionals diorang cakap mmg tak sesuai.. "tapi untuk kau.. mmg cukup lah". I don;t know what they meant by this! bunyi cam menghina keupayaan aku jek chisss. _________________ [ Kluk Kluk Adventure ] | [ Call the Paramedics ] | [ Dot ] | [ AJEEPEK ] |

zid, i dont think with 18 watts per channel of that speaker will give you an honest result.
good monitor speakers should have 100watts. Kalau ko dapat 100watts speaker dgn harga RM600-700 then it is better than 18watts dengan harga rm500. Pada aku Rm500 tu boleh jadi mahal dgn what we get.
the problem is, is there any other greater watts choice within that price range? kalau takde, so m-audio tu the best la kot..heheh
tadi aku check kat bentley dia jual EDIROL MA10D by Roland RM630 tapi cuma 10watt je. Hehe..
tp ni ada passive punya behringer yg murah tapi 100watts. tak tau la ok ke tak..

You need an amplifier -- integrated or power/pre -- to get passive monitors working (macam home stereo). And the sound will depend on how good your ampifier is. In my experience, an integrated amp or a power/pre combo costing less than RM1000 is not going to give you the kind of transparent sound you want for mixing.
On the other hand, if you have a powered mixer, you can just connect the passive monitors to it, though the quality will depend on the electronics in the amp section.
My opinion: If you're doing PC-based recording and are on a tight budget, you're better off with a decent pair of active monitors like Roland's DM-10 (around RM1000), which has additional coaxial/optical inputs, or ESP's nEar05 (around the same price but no DI) , both of which I have tested. |

for RM2000+, i'd say better go for some serious shit like:
KRK - [RP-8] Rokit Powered 8
Powered Reference Studio Monitor
details
or
Alesis - M1 Active MkII (RM2069)
M1 Active Biamplified Reference Monitor
details
both available at SMX.... by the way, they have a RM1000+ budget monitor - KRK RP-5, but not in stock yet, so have to order la...

i think what he's tryin to say is that for home-recording purpose, m-audio is okay, but not suitable for professional studios... betul tak? hehe aku pon rasa terhina kalau dia sound mcm tuh! so aku rasa cam nak settle down with m-audio DX-4 tu je, tapi SMX tak bawak masuk la model tuh.. hmm mane lagi nak carik monitor bawah RM500??!! _________________ > facebook
