Tak semestinya utk metal.
If i'm not mistaken, Steve Lukather and Luke Skywalker also use EMG pickup...hehe.

Cuma aku confuse apa sebenarnya perbezaan diantara brand2 ni? let say ada dua pickup Dimarzio dan Seymour Duncan. Dua2 guna alnico magnet, same wound method, same equalization. Tapi kerana jenama orang may be pilih dimarzio atau sebaliknya. Mungkin kah ada kelebihan lain pada tone setiap jenama?

Physically speaking...yes...they maybe similar.... In actual fact they sound so different due to different construction methods and so on.

Lagi satu alnico magnet ni ade mcm2 jenis. Alnico I, II, III, IV dan sebagainye kalau tak salah aku...lagi satu the amount of wire that is wound around the magnets must be different...thus affecting tonal qualities...

Epiphone Les Paul Special II

Too bad takde lefthand model, kalau tak aku pon nak angkat satu! cibai!!

agree with ridzi.

walaupun 'sama', at the end of the day it depends on whether or not kawan/kedai recommend or saja nak kiasu/tiru your favourite guitarist's setup.

the problem is you can't really test pickups, if you know what i mean. whilst you can go to a shop and play a fender strat hotrodded with a duncan JB humbucker, you won't know what it'll sound like on your {insert your guitar make here}. duncans buat macam 100-day deal (tak sedap boleh tukar). allegedly worldwide, but i don't know whether bentley (amongs others) would oblige doing the same.

Did you know that a string nut is not a nut too? hehehe...

The string nut is what dictates both the spacing (or pitch) of the strings and their height above the frets. This is a critical component in establishing the action of the instrument. Each string nut must be cut to the specific parameters of the neck it will be used on. There is a popular misconception that one may buy generic nuts to fit existing necks, if optimum results are expected, this simply is not so.

A professional nut cut requires doing a full set-up and generally follows a leveling or dressing of the frets. This allows the nut to be finessed down to final dimensions. A nut must be cut to specific geometric parameters to function properly and these parameters are dictated by the type of neck it is to be used on and the angle with which the strings break from the nut towards the individual tuners.

If you don't have the tools, knowledge and expertise to cut your own nut, this operation is best left to the pros.

Arrow more info on string nuts...

okay, here's an interesting "fact" about Seymour Duncan's JB Model humbucker that i got somewhere from GuitarGeek chat forum... Don't know if it's true, but it does make sense. So what does the "JB" stands for really?

Quote:
why do everybody call that pickup JEFF BECK. He doesn't even use humbuckers! The JB stands for Jazz/Blues. Any way, I'ts a great pickup, by far the most versatile I know and perfect for you're style i think.

He used to use humbuckers and the JB has been around since well before Jeff became a Strat endorser.

Seymour Duncan was the one who first helped Mr. Beck put humbuckers in his Telecaster from what I recall. Since Jeff never endorsed SD's pickup I believe that they decided to call it the JB (Jazz/Blues)as a little inside joke while knowing that people would automatically call it a Jeff Beck. At the same time they could sell a lot of pickups as Jeff Beck yet not really have to worry about being sued for doing so - that's pretty clever marketing IMO.
