quote from LANGSUYR:

"Band yang berjaya ada tiga benda ni:

1. Keluar dari kelompok
2. Fanbase yang kuat
3. Propaganda

Sendiri mau pikir. Hang shredder camana ke, tight macamana ke, teknikal camana ke, catchy camana ke... salah satu kat atas takde, you are forgetable! At the end, syok sendiri.

Fikir2kan..."

This band isn't too young to rock

By Jean Weaver

Special to the Star-Telegram

ARLINGTON - Three hours to show time, the setup begins.

The University of Texas at Arlington's Internet radio studio is crammed with drums, cymbals and giant speakers in a 20 foot-by-20 foot room connected by glass to the radio control room. The "roadies" bump into each other, crowding out the musicians while the excited huddle of groupies watches for an opportunity to be noticed by the stars.

For a moment, panic arises over a part missing from the elaborate set of drums. The camera-clad parents -- serving as roadies -- search for the part, and two dads wave the musicians away while they tune their sons' guitars, playing Cat Scratch Fever before the Internet radio show begins.

Outside the studios, the original band members -- drummer Jordan Johnson, 12, and lead guitarist Payton Stevens, 12 -- talk about their future with plans to become rich and famous. Lead singer Winston Triolo, 13, and the newest member -- and the most advanced in years -- bass player Cody Coonrod, 14, say they see it the same way and find their sudden following and success in clubs hard to grasp.

"They are one of the best bands to come out of the Sunday night open-mike jams," said Hot Rods and Hoggs owner Tommy Kemp. "You wouldn't know the lead guitarist is a kid."

Although the group has struggled with choosing a name and an identity, drummer Jordan Johnson's father, Terry Johnson, said that a recording company would name the group when one bites at the demo. Their only original song, My Rude Awakening, unanimously acknowledged as a very sad song written by Triolo, will serve as the group's name for current billing.

Kemp hired the band to play at Hot Rods and Hoggs before the Super Bowl. The group brought 40 to 50 fans with them, including an avalanche of new girlfriends -- a "perk" not lightly admitted. Kemp said that the parent warm-ups gave way to a "remarkably good set" of alternative and classic rock. Songs by the boys' favorite bands -- Green Day, ACDC, Blink 182, Led Zeppelin, Rush and Black Sabbath -- fill the play list.

Four paid gigs, three months and four bookings later, the money and local attention continue to increase as long as the early playtime on school nights is kept in mind.

Triolo's mother, Kim Feil, said that the band began playing together in October, promoted as the house band at Local Color Gallery. Since then, Feil said, the band has played Arlington-area benefits for UT-Arlington and the UT-Arlington Lutheran Center and "open-mike" nights at Arlington nightclubs Hot Rods and Hoggs and Stage One.

"Hot Rods and Hoggs and Monte Carlo's paid the band, which has led to bookings for two private parties, Stage One and Monte Carlo's in March and April," Feil said.

Each of the musicians intends to continue canceling their athletic and extracurricular involvement -- and one girlfriend -- that hinder the time they need to devote to rock band pursuits.

"We like all the girls, but not the jealousy from our friends," said Stevens, who has withdrawn from athletics but not honors band.

New to the band and the lifestyle, Coonrod said he does not want to be "over-the-top famous, just a little famous," while Terry Johnson said that hopefully, they will see their sons on television with a record deal.

The musicians, siblings and parents reluctantly expressed differing opinions on the impact on their time and family relationships, since the excitement continues to build. But the parents each say that they support the boys and help out by scouting venues and tuning their guitars.

"We were surprised to see that they were so young when the parents left the stage and the kids played the music," Kemp said. "I'm sure they'll be even better when their voices change."

- one of the best live bands @ ages 12 - 14? keluar dari kelompok, maybe.

- playing set of alternative and classic rock songs (not many of them are heavily influenced by both genres; even if there are many of them, can't they play well enough) ? keluar dari kelompok, maybe.

- canceling their athletic and extracurricular involvement -- and one girlfriend (not in the 'normal' group of teenagers) ? keluar dari kelompok, maybe.

- I'm sure they'll be even better when their voices change. (still a long way to go to be out of the kelompok, musically, maybe.
