hi guys... i dunno where to post this but here goes...
i went to midvalley to look for earplugs and couldnt find shops selling it at first. when i almost gave up, i stumbled upon an earplugs for swimmers at a sport shop. without really thinking, i chose one from several designs and bought it straight. was so happy that time.
but now, i have this doubt when one of my frens popped up this question," r u sure its suitable for musicians? coz u bought earplug tht blocks water to enter their ears." arghhh... maybe he's rite!
so what do u guys think? should i ditch it and buy a suitable one? if so, where can i find that bloody thing? thanx in advance! _________________ http://www.thesleepingsatellite.com

i have 2 of them... the first one i got it from my wife a few years back while she was a practical trainee at some chemical factory... that one is for protecting your ears against the noisy factory machines... the second one i bought it at a sport shop just like you, and there's no such difference between both of them.. so i think it should be okay...
another alternative, you can use headphones to cover your ears like Linkin Park's guitarist did... hehehe _________________ > facebook

Both types of ear plugs should work well enough |

yes it's true, for the musician type it's like a small sponge that can fit into your ear.. but the result is almost the same. _________________ > facebook

i use to steal them from the workshop back when i was in Uni..they come in small transparent wrappers. Theyre pink and spongy. My best bet is that you should look in hardware stores. You know...screw drivers, chainsaws, mowers, screws,ah...ear plugs. lol.
heres something from http://www.sensaphonics.com/article1.html
Hearing loss as an occupational hazard in the music industry is of increasing concern to musicians. Research has demonstrated that music, from orchestral to rock, has the capacity to cause permanent hearing loss.1-4 There are a number of possible causes for hearing loss other than exposure to loud sound. However, hearing loss that has resulted from working in a high sound pressure level (SPL) environment is different in one way--it can be reduced or prevented altogether with a comprehensive hearing conservation program.
Hearing conservation involves more than simply wearing ear plugs. A comprehensive hearing conservation program includes a detailed personal and family history, periodic assessment of hearing, measurement of work place sound levels, use of preventive measures, and education. An effective program should allow the professional musician to assess the risks and take preventive action in a way that is unobtrusive and takes into account the need to continue working in a high SPL environment. In addition, flexibility in accordance with the needs of the individual musician is necessary. |

i usually find earplugs at pharmacies. most of them carry it.
there's a few different varieties. i find most of them works pretty well. there's this one type i really hate though, it's pliable and oily. every bit as yucky as you can imagine. _________________ www.i-bands.net/lied

I was standing near a construction site in Perth years ago. The construction worker gave me and my wife ear plugs. I don't know where the hell my wife throws/keeps them now. Otherwise I can give them to you. |

I have a pair of earplugs that are called 'sound attenuators' They cost RM60-70 i think. They are the best earplugs because normal industrial earplugs like those mentioned by Deadzid block out certain frequencies making the sound muffled.
The ones that i have they just turn down (attenuate) the volume, and i can even hear all the nice sounds from the cymbals....they are really effective when trying to get a balanced live sound with your band.
These are the ones musicians should be using.. and they give you more satisfaction when playing with the whole band, cos you can hear everything clearly witout your ears bleeding...
here is the picture of the ones im using
