We're looking for a pair of decent sounding budget monitors and was looking at either KRK RP-5 (if they're still available), nEar08 by ESI or Yamaha HS-80m (not-the-very-budget).
At the moment we are mainly doing vocal mixing but would like to be able to use the monitors for various mixing chores later on in the future. So hence it needs to be `flexible'.
Any experiences or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Would be great if someone could point the right direction on where to demo & purchase them too, at a very very best price of course.
Oh and another thing, need a decent budget mixer too. Around 1k would be nice with phantom power would be even sweeter. Anyone who wants to sell their pristine-near-new monitors or mixer please let us know.
Cheers! |

I'm using ESI 08. So far I like it much better than the ESI 05 but still keep the 05 for doing voiceover & vocal recordings.
personally, I prefer the 08 over KRK RP-5. The low freq/bass coming out from RP-5 sounds macam too colored. But for a small room, i think RP-5 would do just fine. and it looks nicer than the 08 too. 08 is way too ugly! (but i still love my 08 though )
The only problem I have now with doing mixes is with my room!
if you're around Gombak/Batu Caves area, you can drop by my place and have a listen to the ESI 08 & ESI 05.
or alternatively you can go to midispecialist at Low Yat plaza where i purchased the speakers from.
good luck! _________________ [ Kluk Kluk Adventure ] | [ Call the Paramedics ] | [ Dot ] | [ AJEEPEK ] |

Thanks for your feedback GryMlock. Will check out midispecialist if I have the time. How much for the 08? I found some HS80Ms for 2.3k which is not too bad. |

Okta, i got 2 sets of speakers pasal mula2 aku beli 05. then mix aku bahagian low end semua jahanam. then want to upgrade to 06 but dah tak available.. so end up getting 08 which have nice low range.
one thing aku notice bila pakai 05.. aku bleh detect noises, background noises better then with the 08. But i still hate my room. the old room in ukay perdana was the best! _________________ [ Kluk Kluk Adventure ] | [ Call the Paramedics ] | [ Dot ] | [ AJEEPEK ] |

last year i checked at CK Music, it's about RM1800 a pair...

I got a pair of Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 ProActive Monitors. Sounds pretty good.. This is what my home set-up looks like now But I think My power supply is 'dirty', I can hear the 50Hz hum when i turn it up. Anybody know where I can get a decent power conditioner??

Ah thanks bro....
As it turned out the problem with the humming is actually the speaker itself...the speaker had bad grounding...i.e. defective. Migo of BANDBODO who works at CK's was kind enough to get it replaced for me... now its quiet like a dream!!!
