Hi,
Just want to ask u guys.
I bought 1 old guitar brand Maison with 21 frets neck.
I m thngking to upgrade it by changing to 22 or 24 frets, any brand will do.
before i proceed i need your advice, is there any problem will occurs if i change the neck? for example, the pitch will be gone out, meaning if i tune the 6 string on E but on the 12 frets will be a bit flat or sharp E??
is there any possibility it will happen??
another question is. if i like to change what brand do u suggest and how much it cost?
thanks |

if you replace the neck without routing the wood at the slot above the heel there may be a problem due to the altered scale length (distance between the nut and the bridge's saddle).
if you see guitars like the squier bullet (which also has 21 frets) they are a tad smaller (and shorter). fitting a 'grown up' fender strat-style neck will definite be difficult unless you make changes. but if your maison is something like the older vintage 21-fret fender strats, the 'grown up' neck size wouldn't matter as much but the scale length would probably pose a similar problem.
(scale length for a strat is usually 25 1/2" long).
there are two issues now:
1. the amount of $$$ spent on this little venture may be such that you are better off with a new guitar
2. you really love your maison and rather not use any other makes, which means you need to spend a lil' bit of dosh lah. if you are good in carpentry go ahead and do it yourself but you better get a luthier (eg GIM) to do it for you as they've got routers etc.
hope this helps. _________________ "my small self...like a book amongst the many on a shelf.."

if you go to 24 frets, even with maintaining at 25.5 scale lenght (the length from the nut to the bridge), you will sacrifice your neck pickup..
kalau tak kena move bridge ke depan sikit.. warghhhh too many werks! _________________ Gelanggang guitar : http://guitarden.starahead.com |

another issue....
i just change my bridge to folyd rose (under licensed) with lock nut, of course.
i wonder why, after i tune up the guitar using a standard electronic tuner, the tune will gone mad again a little bit after i bend up and down my tremolo even in a soft movement. Its not so critical as the tune change only a lil bit like 5%, but so destructing....
any advice???? what to do? where to check? is it becouse of the spring? is it because my lock nut(i lock it real hard)?
any idea? |
