WELL LETS MAKE IT ABOUT BJORK THEN!!!
i remember after seeing her video, 'venus as a child' .. went out the next day to buy her cassette (no cds during that era). Took it to my dorm, listened to it the whole day...ppl from the other rooms came in and asked 'ape bende ko dengar tu?'
and i said 'bjork, layan siot'.
and i remember what one guy did, which made me lose respect in him, as well as so many so called musicians at the time in Malaysia;
he looked at the front cover for a while...it was a picture of Bjork looking as raw as she was then, wearing some woolly jumper i think, but i distinctly remember some weird pearl drops under her eyes. In short, she looked very 'unglamourous'.
And that guy said 'Buruknye muke dia, tak lawa lansung, tak leh pakai make-up lawa sikit ke?'.
and he left.
scarred me for life i tell you.
I learned then and there, that a lot of people focuses not the aspirational music of the musician, but rather if he/she is good-looking enough to be listened too. How sad....how very very sad. |

adam...I can read your mind...be careful...I know u r thinking something dirty now...hahaha
Jeff, ya...I could not stand ppl judging music because of the looks of musicians too. I guess that type of mindset is more suitable for the commercial music scene..or rather teenage pop scene...with all pretty gals and pretty boys...
Bjork, I can't hardly accept her music except a few of them. Her music is weird (she dress up weird too) but I think that's cool. I have never bought her album but a song called, So Quiet, is my all time favourite. It was haunting me since day one. Someone can send me the MP3 ah??? hehehe. I was in the UK when the song went up very high in the UK chart for almost 1 month or more...I think it hit no. 1. I am not a fan of charts....but sometimes UK chart is definitely more interesting that US one....weird songs/bands will appear on the UK chart once in a while.....(but in recent years I dunno lah) |
