If you had to choose only one basic stompbox (single effect) to go between your guitar and your amp, which would you pick and why?
I'm asking this question because I firmly believe purity of tone is paramount for a player to convey his personality with any degree of honesty. Would you agree?... Oops, that's another question! _________________ ORIGINAL MUSIC: RS / Archtop Soul / synthdude / YouTube Channel I / YouTube Channel II |

May I?
I would go for a digital delay BOSS. With the already good sounding Marshall AVT100 maybe I just need to boost the delay a bit.
Define purity?
Do you mean that purity in a sense that it means the raw sound of a guitar directly plugin to the amp without any effect?
Please elaborate _________________ www.myspace.com/hazmin90 |

I can write a whole book on this bro! Well...the reason on the possible breadth of things to write is because it all depends on the amp that you're using and the tone you're looking for...with all these variables, different principles of tone shaping apply to each unique scenario. What kind of tone are you looking for? For instance a heavy rock sound/metal/blues/jazz/clean/distorted/light overdrive etc. etc.
I've programmed about 60 sounds on my pre-amp so as to have the guitar tones from the 1950's to the present day...for the sake of needs during sessions...so I hope I can help you in deciding what is the one essential stompbox that you should have in order to nail your 'holy grail' tone
Fire away bro
And please...it would be cool to have everybody contribute to this discussion! |

i think Bode will have a hard time to leave behind his loyal BOSS Distortion pedal DS-1.
mine would be the 5-band graphic eq (and DS-1, and Compressor CS-1 and ... ) |

This is a very good topic.. but synthdude, a single stomp box.. that means we have to sacrifice the the rest of category in choosing one category coz.. there are the tone modifiers kind, time based kind, modulations etc.. Thats why I go for preamps.. _________________ save me from myself of what's left of my soul after I've sold some part of it |

I havent used the DS-1 for ages...though it's still there and working...but yeah...if I only have one pedal to use...that's the one!
Actually frankly speaking, even with my current gear, I'm still trying to copy the sound that I used to get through the DS-1...in the olden days it was just the DS-1 into the amp and nothing else(I dont use the pedal now because I'm trying to simplify my live setup...no efx pedals...everything just using my pre-amp/efx unit |

Along the years.. there were lots of DS-1 that we have come across.. but not all of them were really sonically equal.. I still remember this one DS-1 'made in japan' that I feel like stealing it.. or just trade with my cassettes that it's owner borrowed and forgot where he put 'em.. _________________ save me from myself of what's left of my soul after I've sold some part of it |
