Yaaaayyyyy!!!!!! Another shredddeeeeerrrrrrrr!!!!! Very Happy
First thing first..are you my age? I'm 35...if that is the case, we probably grew up listening to the same guitar heroes and music then Smile
Welcome to i-bands!
You are an accomplished shredder. No doubt about that. Your playing exhibit superb mastery of technique and feel. I assume these two tracks are tracks written to showcase the guitar playing aspect of the song, since obviously the spotlight is on the guitar melody. These two tracks exhibit the vibe which are not dissimilar to the vibe you get on Joe Satriani's 'Not of this Earth'. It would be cool if you are willing in the future to churn out tracks with more attention to song structure and provide more variations as to enrich the platform on which you can solo on. Interesting chord changes and rhythmic variations can provide even more avenues for melodic expression through the guitar. For instance Yngwie's "I am a Viking' has a beautiful chord progression, and he topped that with a solo blistering with emotion and technique which makes use to the fullest the potential provided by the chordal platform. On the contrary, Gary Moore's unaccompanied guitar solo on the live album 'We Want Moore' is beautifully mind numbing as well...without the need of any accompaniment whatsoever. What I'm trying to say by referring to those two contrasting approaches above is that there are no rights and wrongs here...I'm just giving my 2 cents worth on what else I would love to hear from you , since I really look forward to listen to more music from you Smile
Great to meet a Gary Moore fan. I still think he is probably one of the most underrated guitar players...he can blaze and shred like no one can (as heard on his earlier works with Coliseum, Skid Row, Thin Lizzy and his solo career up to 1986), and at the same time he can just play one note which can truly shatter a million notes from other players. He's got it all that guy...the perfect combination in a guitar hero...he makes the guitar swear, scream and he can make it cry...
Err...have you got any of his cd's from the Coliseum era? Smile

By the way, please check out my tunes as well from the links below. It will be obvious to you that we grew up listening to the same stuff! Ha ha!
Catch ya later dude! Laughing

gd morning bode.

yes ..we are indeed in the same generation of guitar players. thank you so much for taking time to listen to my 2cts worth of music, and your inspiring comments..it really boost my aspiration to strive a higher level of playing.

i must admit that i have alot to improve in music, considering that a big portion of my learning is through self-taught and since i'm just a hobbyist, *not trying to find excuses*, juggling times for my new passion: marathon, working and guitar playing is a big challenge these days. but i do make a point to play something on my guitar every night after work and over the weekends.

i have listened to your work...IMPRESSIVE pal! you remind of some local guitar players here in singapore i know..like paul danial (real name paul das..for some reason he changed it to 'danial')..and eddy gilbert....

tell me something about your gears and your daily training regime.

Thanks for your kind words bro. Yeah, I myself is totally self taught as well, and since you're about my age, I know that both of us didnt have the internet/tabs and all those stuff...just wearing out cassette players and records! I was in medical school in my younger years, so expectedly, time is not on my side when it comes to guitar playing. I rarely get the chance to play guitar at all on most days, and if I do, 2 hours is the most I can afford. Back in those days, I was really into writing and recording music as well...and I love playing keyboards too, which was my main instrument, before I switched to guitar at the age of 16. Now, I'm a full time doctor with a beautiful wife and beautiful kids, and my guitar strings are just rusting away at home...the last gig I played was in 1999...I only pick up the guitar when I get called to studio sessions, which is the only reason why I still touch the guitar now....pathetic huh? I dont have a regime, I just repeat at what I suck...err...which is pretty much everything really! Ha ha! So many things to practice, but so little time....
All my band members are lawyers/doctors and engineers with families as well, so the lack of time issue is common to all of us, but we hope to get back to writing, recording and playing live one day.
For details of my equipment, you can get it here:

Just look under the music player on the right hand side, the link titled 'Bode's Equipment'.

Are you residing in Canada or Singapore now?

helo bode

woow! you guys are rocking professionals man...

i still am in singapore, but already attained a canadian PR status, recently. but i'm not intending to leave this commercial city just yet..gotta work hard and save really really hard..i travel up to KL very often..like once a month or once every two mths..do u live in KL?

when i was in toronto, last feb..i visited a coupla pubs. the live bands there..wooow! explosive man. i mean they're caucasian, they sing in their own language..that already make them one step ahead of asians. the guitar players there, are not bad at all...the only thing i regretted was..there was this guy, i asked if i can jam with his band. it was not a big pub..though..so he asked his guitar player..and he came back telling me, that.."my guitarist says..you cant use his guitar cos they're like 3 grand " . i was thinking "what? 3 grand..and he was making such a big fuzz about it?" i mean any average guitar cost about that much..it's not like he was playing some hand-made limited edition guitar....

there are alot of opportunities to play in north america. i'm sceptical if at this age, there are bands who still want a guitarist this old.

Age is not an issue at all in most circumstances, if it becomes an issue to them, then these people are assholes, and you sure dont want to work with assholes anyway! Just go man..be brave and just go...I was in UK for 10 years, though initially I faced some biasness because of skin colour, but if you play loud enough, they will finally notice, and once they notice then you will get the respect that you deserve.
Hmm...since you were talking about this guy with the 3 grand guitar who didnt let you play, I remember a similar occasion in PJ, in a club, where anybody can go up and play. The drummer of the house band invited me for a blues jam, though I was reluctant, he managed to get me to agree. Then when he suggested to the guitarist to let me play, the guitarist looked at me(I was wearing a pagoda t-shirt with slacks and slippers) and said NO.
6 months later, we played a gig where his band played before us, he didnt recognize me(i was dressed a bit better that night!), and he was really looking forward to check me out coz he was impressed with my mini rig. We played...and I was so LOUD,and was shredding, and I noticed that he was right in front of my amp and watching me intently throughout our performance. After the performance he came and complimented me and proclaimed himself as a fan...then I told him..."dude...do you remember 6 months ago in this club you got this dude who was badly dressed that you declined him from playing your guitar?" "He was quiet...and his facial expression indicated that he remembered...though he didnt say anything..."
Then I told him..."THAT WAS ME..."

That was a beautiful moment... Laughing

So dude, dont feel too bad about being dissed abroad. I get SHIT from our own people in our own country, where my music is hated.

Oh yes man...get your stuff on soundclick.com...producers/companies in the states and europe who are looking for instrumental musicians and shredders shop there...I got lucky there...I'm sure you will too...

Oh...b4 I forget, I live in PJ... Very Happy
