ok guys, i got a question. Do you have any problems with the clacking sound of your picks hitting the string?
its most audible in the first 15 seconds of my song Forward View. Lsiten to it and youll know what i mean;

http://www.i-bands.net/audiovault/play.php?band_id=712&song_id=1418&mode=song_hifi

you hear it?

Now the question is, how do i get rid of that sound? Is it through:
1. Hardware settings?
2. Playing technique?
3. EQ-ing?

Ive heard a few of the guitar intensive songs in i-bands having the same the problem, Unicorn flirtingwith sleep to name one (around minute 2.27 onwards-right panned guitar) a few more ive noticed i cant remember right now.

Do help. Thanks.

The funny thing is, before you mentioned it, I never noticed it! And even after I noticed it, it didn't bother me at all. I've got all sorts of crap coming out from my guitar playing and I wouldnt want to worry too much about it...life is short! Very Happy

But, if you wanna try to minimize it, try hitting the strings at a more perpendicular angle to the strings. And hold the pick so that the pick angle is more parallel to the strings; so that there is a more immediate attack and less 'scraping' or 'clacking' or whatever you call it Smile

Trying different gauges and shapes of picks may help you too...it makes a world of difference to me. There are picks where the contact point between the pick and the string is broad...and some where the point is almost needle sharp(i.e. stubby Jim Dunlop picks)...borrow them and try it out!

It doesnt have anything to do with the hardware. Eq'ing out frequencies in the region of 4 to 8kHz may help...but it might dull down the guitar sound too.

thanks bode, i think i jsut figured it out. I think its my picks, i bought a box of mediums with assorted icons and pcitures cheap and i can emulate that loud clacking sound jsut by clipping it agaisnt the edge of my fingernails. I should look for thicker and less flimsy picks.
Murah puney pasal ...wahaha. Oh well, they disappear on a daily basis anyway, so ill run out to buy new ones soon.

Thanks dude. YOU ROCK! Very Happy

Actually, even big rock stars (ie; Metallica) got that 'clacking' sound in their riffs! kalau dengar ko dengar betul2 lagu2 diaorang memang ada bunyi tu, so i think tak kisah sangat la...

Tapi Bode cakap tu betul gak.. pick! sebelum nih aku suka pakai pick lembut, konon2 nya kalau time solo senang utk pick tu melentur, tapi pada hakikatnya utk riff2 metal yg laju, sangat tak sesuai!

By the way Gabardine, aku dengar lagu ko tu, its a good song, tapi aku rasa vocalist ko is too heavily influenced by Eddie Vedder. Not that its bad or anything, but I think dah terlampau banyak band sekarang ni (Creed, Fuel, The Calling) buat vocal camni... Its a bit stale if you ask me, kalau your vocalist buleh come up with his own style, I think I will be able to enjoy the song more...
