yo fellas,
still ramai yg facing the vintage tremolo setup. ada yg kata spring Bflat la, ini macam angle la.. itu macam la.. taruk getah dalam spring la... ayo yo! kandi panama??
vintage tremolo ni ada 3 to 4 types of block and many2 specs. aku angkat yg dekat je la... standard on most guitars!
TYPE OF BLOCK (minus the specs offset - i.e japs 5-10% less margin)
1) cast tebal
2) cast nipis
3) galvanised steel (macam yg reissue)
4) steel (vintage atau callaham)
string ferrules depth for the ball ends. vintage cetek, ri 3/4 and tengkorak brand, aku tak tau.. banyak sangat la..
PLATE
1) material tak sama. the older ones seems to be properly hardened. to me, the newer ones a bit tak firm.n sini aje dah kantoi..
2) pivot holes. ada yg counter sunk dan ada yg tak
3) string holes. most of the clicking came from here from the ri, but the vintage are damn clean, you can counter sunk a little on it to reduce strings breakages.
SADDLES
1) fuyoh! letih nak layan. nickle content yg tinggi aku suka. as for the usa made, selain vintage, the stamping of the fender itself ada 2 atau 3 jenis (we are not talking about jap or mexico here) again, kantoi lagi.. 82 to 84 ri, soft stamp and smaller fons.. pre 96, slightly larger and still soft stamps. sekarang punya.. pergh! hardstamp tapi ada 2 atau tiga material.. aku pernah dapat 2 reissue tapi stamping lain macam dan tone pon lain.. hmm.. sama gak dengan knobs, usa pre 96, 4 spokes like japs but the recent ones are like the ori accept for the miniskirt (made of bakelites)
PIVOT SCREWS
1) material lain, depth lain. vintage shorter, 70s ada chrome, 90s panjang tembus sampai tremolo route.. pergh! always check the specs. ambil yg hardened and the correct size. kalo terlalu sempit, senak lak lubang screw tu. kalo terlalu luas.. lobos lak..
2) pivot dimensions. usa specs as standard. tapi 70s ada lari sikit, sini lah kerja tampal turap yg leceh... ada lak yg DIY sampai senget dan diagonal.. alo kawan, macam mana mau balik tune?
SPRINGS
1) springs pon ada gauge la.. tension hard medium and soft.. aku prefer fenders lama punya.. not too tight! problem bila springs dah rojak gauge dia.. adus.. macam motor ex-5 atau kancil lari alignment la..
2) kat sini ada separuh sin seh guna tube nak buang that accessable reverb atau that vibrating factor... i don't need all that!
ASSEMBLY
1) pasang the plate dgn block mesti alligned and tight! jangan lak sampai haus menatang tu.. always use the ori screws. always remember imperial and metric ya...
2) bila pasang pivot screws, janagn pasang springs dulu.. ambik cotton but, get a vaselin single lined kat plate bawah punya contact surface. kalo yg dah jinak trem tu, tak perlu la. bukan dalam pivot holes ya..
3) concentrate on 1st and last E pivot. make sure dia loose and free floating dan the block tak contact body inner tremolo cavity. kalo ada, trimming atau rehole the pivot screws holes kat body.. tampal dan turap.. always build a template for drilling ya. guna perspecs plastic.
4) play with the angle sampai ada free flow. please note that.
a) bila recessed, pivot screws tadi mesti sama dengan surface plate.
b) masuk strings and tune up. set the strings height standard ikut radius la. pakai ruler besi kecik aaa.. tak perlu micrometre la.. (NECK AKU POST LATER NANTI) aku consider korang dah jumpa angle and the rest dah sempurna. aku pernah post pasal benda ni 2 tahun lepas tapi dah terdelete..)
c) if viewing from the neck, look straight at the center of the vertical center of the pivot.. look for the balancing for the free flow on the plus or minus point. (camne aku nak cakap aaa in words.., hmmmm!) ini yang crucial ni..
d) balancedkan the spring tension sama dgn 440. tarik dengan tolak mesti ada balancing point. must float nicely.. aku consider spring gauge dan strings mesti matched. kalo korang dah rojak punya spring, aku tak tau la.. tune up the spring claw so that dapat itu balance point.
e) lepas ko dapat itu tension, make sure that the pivot screws punya bottom surface touching the plate. so bila dia resting, the screws will contact the top surface plate. same goes on the other 4 pivot screws.
f) always check the butterfly allignment mesti sama dgn nut. sand down or file the lower surface sampai smooth. dulu punya kaum guna tali used wound kasi gesel sampai smooth.
g) nut. ambil ruler besi dan measure string height kat nut.. kasi balance ikut radius gak. check gak from fingerboard end to end. guna microfile. slots mesti angled ikut strings dan ada ruang smooth on the sides. contact point kat neck to pon ada flow. these will remove that the clicking sound. not to much depth and gap. lepastu, letak carbon pensel kat slot...
ok, basic dah siap! harap ini dapat membantu... so enjoy!
CONCLUSION
1) balancing point of the tuning gauge will help to bring the springs into position..
2) friction area and angles must be solved 1st..
3) solid block and hardened plate material are more stable, ini facts.
4) check later on the neck fitting angle neck. this will smooth things up. aku post later sebab babak ni ramai kantolan polisi..
basicly kalo ikut rene martinez. put graphite liquid kat almost movable contact mechanisme macam spring claw ring, holes, ferrules etc. kalo tak kenal dia, kasi google la...
