Garaa Band's first gig! [ Review ]
author: garaaband posted: 03 Jul 2006 04:45 PM
Date: 1st July 2006

Venue: TuneStone Studio, Klang

Organizer: i-Bands

Time: 3pm

It was Garaa Band's very first gig. We arrived at around 12noon to do some settings and tunings. Luckily we were the first to arrive so we could take our time to do whatever we want. Thanks to Hamzah who willingly came all the way from the studio to show us the way there. For everyone's info, TuneStone Studio host gigs almost every weekend with variety of music genre. That's impressive.

At around 4pm, the crowd came settling in the studio and the first performers started their material. Crowd not too many, not too little, just nice and comfortable to move around. But if there were more, it would be a bonus to us all in terms of exposure and promotions. Well, word of mouth will do.

So, we were suppose to be the 7th band to play. But, due to technical difficulties of another bands, and other bands were not prepared, Garaa Band was called to be the 2nd act, at the very last minute! We didn't complain, heard our names, got up and took our stuffs up to the stage. I guess we should be respected for that.

Some of us never did play in a gig before, and it was quite some time ago for the rest of us. Nervous? Yes, of course. The crowd was sitting down so that made it worse for us because we couldn't interact with the crowd when they're sitting coz most of our songs are fast and heavy. But, anyhow they were very sporting and supportive. We appreciate their attendance and support they've shown for i-Bands and all local independent bands, including us.

We played 5 of our original songs; Neverends, Lost, Ganbatte, Timurlistiwa, and Spastik Primat accordingly. What we can say is that every song was well accepted, especially Ganbatte!! Maybe of its funky rythm and our attitude towards that song. On our first song, Neverends, our bassist's power suddenly blew off and no bass was heard. But he professionally found the cause to the power failure and immediately changed the plug and kept on rocking. During Lost, the lights were suddenly dimmed and turned dark for a while and made our guitarists panicked to get their chords right. Glitches here and there but they played well to keep on running the show. Good job guys! We played a very tight set!

It felt short, but we were happy that our first gig was a success. After that, we were called up for a short interview and some picture snappings. Alhamdulillah, everything was good.

Another thing those who never came missed out (besides all bands perfomed marvellously) was the.... BBQ!! Yeap, we had bbq at the rooftop of the studio. Chicken was delicious, especially. All enjoyed the food, catching up old times with long lost friends, laughing and enjoying the moments. Congratulations i-Bands and TuneStone!! If ever you do gigs again, I bet the crowd will be more anticipating!! Your reputation will be heard.

We left at around 9.30pm with smiles on our faces.

We would like to thank i-Bands and TuneStone Studio for making this a reality. A big thanks to Ajeep, how can we ever thank you for your efforts. And to all the crews involved to make this a success. Congratulations! Finally, our local independent music can be heard a step further.
