Aku ni takder la bijak pandai..
tapi aku nak jawab gak soalan ko.. ahaha...

aisey, contractor baru aje naikkan dinding kat bilik tu.. aku pilih batu pasir pulak.. hmmm....

that would be considered as room in a room method...

the idea is to create a space between 2 walls...
for wall material and extra materials... i dont know much.. sorry

room-in-a-room method

fibre exzhaust tu boleh pakai..carefull handling with it..tajam

how thick between concrete/stone wall punye gap?
normally 4inches will do..but plywood yg nk top layer tu jgn terlalu tipis..amek yg dlm 4-5mm..tebal n safe bile org sandar or letak equipment

dari pakai kotak telur tu..better ko buat acoustic panel..simple je..buat square frame..letak plywood on top..letak foam..any foam..cheap pon boleh..then wrap ngan kain kusyen yg mcm baldu tuh

mahal sket..tp boleh portable

acoustif foam ni perlu ke ditepek kat selurah ruang dinding??

NO!!!

If you do that you will end up with a muddy, dull sounding room. Acoustic foam only absorbs upper-mids and high frequencies. Helping prevent reflections WITHIN a room.

It DOES NOT have enough MASS (jisim) to stop sound waves from escaping outside. The only effective method is by the combination of mass + airspace. For that you need either bricks or multiple layers of gypsum/cement board and rockwool.

An equally important point besides the type of material used is WHERE you put it. How you position the layers of rockwool and boards make a HUGE difference of the total Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of the wall assembly.

Two BIG question are ...

1) DO YOU REALLY NEED A ROOM WITHIN A ROOM?
2) CAN IT BE PRACTICALLY AND EFFECTIVELY DONE?

I hope your consultant knows what he is doing. Because if you've built up your walls and it still leaks low frequencies ... you're basically screwed. There's no way to fix it except to tear it down and rebuild from scratch. Do post some pictures so we can take a look.

This one of the BEST online resources of acoustics, sound isolation and studio design. Everything you need to know about the topic can be found in this forum :

http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php

There's also a good discussion thread in Jamtank.net

Here's a pictorial on my Studio B construction. Takes you step by step through the entire process :

The last time I did my studio build, it was cheaper, around RM80+. Building material prices however can fluctuate greatly depending on the economic climate so it might be more expensive now.

Do you know you can actually order directly from Roxul if you are buying in bulk?
