Hi,
First of all, Audio Interface, you'll go for USB or FireWire? why?
2ndly, as you know Presonus is a familiar and GOOD quality device!!! But, it isn't an inexpensive products...What is your recommendation to the Cheap but quality Audio Interface?
3rd, will you go for Audio Interface or USB/FW Mixer? Though we got a interface, but we often grab another piece of Mixer for more controls from Preamp, Main Out to Monitor's control, Headphone control to Talk Back and so on... How do you say from your home studio?
Thanks for now!! |

What is your budget?
Usually though, "cheap" isn't synonymous with "quality" _________________ [Record Producer/Mixer/Recording Engineer]

+10 for Jedi
budget is a bigger matter of all, you need to know how much u want to invest and for how long?
qualification is also another matter, not to say you're really stupid or beginner, but the qualification mean by do you know how to use it and when to adapt it? if not you gonna keep on buying a wasted item.
how the work flow is also a matter to me, see this, why u need alot of input channel when you just use less? the more the feature the expensive they are. How do you define your recording process? Digital? Miccing? VSTi?
familiarity is also need to be consider, its like buying PS3 without HDMI cable, or buy a condenser mic but your interface dont have a phantom power features.
so when you get the point out of this 4 matter, i guess you know which one you should grab, but to matter of cheap or not cheap, i think its fair enough when good high end gear to be expansive generally speaking, what do you want at the first point _________________ Support Malaysia Local Band

I've been thru there b4... i would highly recommend you to read this
http://www.recordingreview.com/soundcard/soundcard_wizard.php
I will always opt for USB 2.0 and not 1.1 nor firewire, simply 2.0 has higher bandwidth and is backward compatible with 1.1 and not the other way round and also not all PC come with firewire...

No shortcut for these.... read all the manuals for the AIs available in the market... dun worry, the more u read the more u know each pros n cons.

Haaa...hey hey...thanks to all...appreciate!!!
I've got a Presonus Firepod in the major studio. It serve me just right and sound is good. But support of Driver not really good. Why? I'm a Mac and Logic user... Presonus always slow update to their driver.
Though Interface is really important, to me, all are just a Hardware...Creative is the FIRST consideration, Mic is also just a tool, Vocalist is the FIRST consideration too.
Some bought Fender Strat and recorded a bad sound. But a Cheap GregBennett maybe will giving a good sound for a PANDAI guitarist who had experience to Tweak around the StormBox to Mixing editing.
So, i've decided to grab something Cheap (doesn't mean louzy but reasonable in price) but quality (doesn't mean superb but average) for the Home Studio. When we said Home Studio, we are not affortable for Big Money spending mah...
Anyway, everybody got their own settup and interest to some equipt. That's why i wish to get some comments here hope it c'l be my references...
What i wish:
1) 2-4 tracks recording at once (tak kira USB or Firewire, as long as stabile when multi-inputs apply on recording) I heard some bad on USB for doing recording more than 2 tracks at once
2) Since i need a small scale mixer to control as what i've mention early, why not just consider the Alesis Multimix USB or Phonic Helix or Behringer Xeynyx?
That's all for now and again, appreciate to all replies!!! |

2 - 4 channel... hurmm.. i remember last time when i drop to ETERNAL home studio he is using Zoom R16, the sound and features and not bad at all.. the price i cant remember but much cheaper than Toneport UX8
we test to record live as we bring the console to jamming studio and miccing all mic (it was up to 8 channel if im not mistaken), i cant demand more from the quality out of it.. it nice.
I cant recommended much about that item as im not familiar alot with it, but to say the truth, it worth it, it was connected via USB, features included amp/cab modulator, fx, much features like a real mixer. Sound wise, amp/cab modulator quite sucks, but if u disable and use your own head or pre-amp or maybe mfx, clarity approved. Built in MMC to stored all your recorded material.
support phantom power, i try to compare using MY-MIC TS with R16 and UX2, well i will say R16 do greater job..
the another problem i see is, when do multi channel record straight to DAW, it always end up ETERNAL cubase crashed or hang, maybe ETERNAL pc is the problem,
Hope ETERNAL can explain it more to you
Its affordable! thats the matter _________________ Support Malaysia Local Band

haha...
why la you relate me with cheapo crappy stuffs.. ahaha..
yeah i love cheap stuffs.. even behringer is great to me, despite the quality..
everyone has their own benchmark on 'CHEAP' & 'QUALITY' or even 'SATISFACTION'. So you decide your own choice.
to answer your question... the reason my pc hang is because im using R16 as my OS soundcard. so when both DAW and OS using the same ASIO driver, it will create conflict.
to resolve this, i need a dedicated soundcard... hehe..
As for technical questions, you may refer to the manual.
I am a cheap guy who dont want to buy a separate mixer & AI.
Flexible as a mobile item (memory card) or PC device (AI).
can use adapter or battery.
All i can say is. It is a cheapo stuff that fits my requirement as cheapo who likes crap stuffs and the benchmark for my 'SATISFACTION' is not that high. Obviously my benchmark & definition for 'CHEAP' quite rather low. _________________ KreativWerks MediaSolutions|Soundcloud | YouTube | Facebook |

mmg.. betul... each person definition of "cheap" is different... buying a BMW is consider cheap for some1.. and some buying a VIVA is consider expensive but this doesn't relate them being a cheapo ya..
I'm sure everyone is looking for a "gud deal" plus some supportive feedback so we feel more comfortable with the purchase.
Bagi I, if i done my due diligence and the product convince me... Just Do It hehe _________________ Thank you

yg. penting kena ada good driver support from manufacturer...if not.soooo leceh...
good luck!
