I'm a bit partial to Line 6 products so I'd agree to go with the POD product series. The amp-modelling is arguably the best (at least to my ears) and an additional benefit is that you can also use it to record guitars at home.
In terms of "true" multi-FX pedals however, I'd say the Boss GT series has continually proven to be a winner. If you already have a fairly good amp and are not really concerned about mimicking an amp sound, I'd say the Boss GT's are really good value-for-money.

well... then again..
mfx or any other other pedals would sound differently when connected to different amp... or even mixer
so it would pain in the ass when you need to re-setup everytime you use a different type of amplifier...
even if the amp is the same... but sometime the room sound or other instruments sound which is different would give slight impact on our sound, which force us to re-tweak the patch all over again...
well, unless you dont care about it...
