Cool 'singing' melodic guitar playing on an uptempo driving rhythm. A nice one to listen when you're cruising along the highway! The song is in major key, and I have to be frank, soloing in the major key in a rock track is not an easy task for some reason( as for me, the difficulty lies in the fact that it prevents me from falling back comfortably to using my worn out 80's metal cliches!  ). The chorus especially has that 'Satriani' feel to it. What catches my attention is the awesomely fat and juicy tone. I noticed the neck pickup being used in the later part(during the minor key part), but I'm curious whether or not you're using the '4th' position(bridge/middle) of the 5 way selector for the other parts (or is it the bridge pickup combined with a wah?).
Is it the neck pickup or the middle pickup used for the rhythm track?
What about the pre-amp/amp/simulator used? |

Doc, these technical Q's are so confounding! But I guess there has to be some method to the madness, right?
Used my trusty ol' beat-up '89 American Standard Strat (with cigarette-burn marks on the rosewood neck dating from bad, mad pubbing days) for most of the parts.
The guitar (for all parts) went thru Behringer's V-Amp 2 whose classic-amp distortion presets were slightly altered for the rhythm and lead parts.
The rhythm on the left is on No 2 (neck/middle) while the one on the right is on No 4 (bridge/middle). Chose these positions because of the noiseless wiring in these modes on the Strat.
The solo for the most part was on No 4. And you're right about the switch to the neck pickup (is it so obvious?) for the tune's bridge. Being a fan of Hendrix at his most visceral, it's my favourite tone for aggressive, angular bludgeon-the-beast solos.
I think I went to the bridge pickup for the squealing bits towards the end.
The rhythms were also doubled up left/right on a Mexican Strat just before the final section for a slight wall-of-sound effect.
Curious, that you should mention the wah effect because it was created naturally thru sheer brutish picking (I never learned to use a pick properly!).
Also, part of that "fat and juicy" tone has to do with the fact that I use all five bridge springs on the Strat. It's now permanently in lockdown mode!
As for this whole somewhat a-technical exercise, it was done as a mixing/mastering experiment for our project.

wow.. mixed n mastered in under tow hours.. but u got nice sound there..im impressed! professional work.. no criticsm on your song.. its all very good n bright..

About your picking technique, if that's not the right way, then stay wrong! It sounds awfully good and your character and attitude comes through beautifully! |
