Singer dies attempting spectacular jump

The Leeds music scene is in shock after a singer died following an onstage accident.

Patrick Sherry, frontman with the up-coming band Bad Beat Revue, was injured after he fell from the stage during the band’s set at city’s The Warehouse last week (July 20).

Sherry was attempting a spectacular set-closing jump but fell short and landed on the floor, injuring his head.

The Club NME night was immediately halted and the venue closed while the singer was taken to hospital. He later died of his injuries at 3am.

Celebrated for his stage presence, Sherry had at previous gigs jumped onto tables and chairs during performances and once at one dilapidated venue, even poked his head through the holes in a wall to sing to the next room.

Rising through the ranks of the Yorkshire music scene since their formation over three years ago, Bad Beat Revue were beginning to attract serious interest and had shared a bill with Hard-Fi at the Manchester Roadhouse last year.

Expressing his sympathies on behalf of NME, editor Conor McNicholas said: "We are extremely saddened to hear of this tragic accident. Our deepest condolences go to Patrick's friends and family."

Meanwhile the Bad Beat Revue’s management paid tribute on behalf of the band to their late bandmate, issuing the following statement:

“He was a really good lad and real showman. He went out doing his thing and he always really meant it. It’s a real shame as the band were starting to make waves, but he was a great frontman, a great friend and he will be missed by everyone, the band, his friends and his family.” - NME
