i believe, i'm one the dude who passed the racist remark to kit,
but i'm chinese, half anyways, but am totally fed up with the chinese way of thinking anyways, i'm spared by it in my family, but seen enuff of it to be pissed out of my mind and wanting to just be called a malaysian and not a bloody chinese....
and i saw that in him, therefore i called what i saw.....
but kit was nice enuff to come to my blog and wished me the best. and i have no beef with him,
his blog has truth, and does make a good point, at the same time i hope it would serve as a reminder to us all? to work harder in hopes of a better further for our scene, so there will be nobody else like him to condemn us,
we are a long way off...
thanks bode =) |

Yeah...Alda, even though there are some aspects which I strongly disagree with him, there are some sad truths about the local music industry in there too (I'm referring to the full blog on his page). And anyway, it's his personal space to rant (though some issues could be better not expressed in public...similarly, I do have some opinions which would be better kept under the lid...due to the fact that the disruption/anger that could be caused from the disclosure of these thoughts would definitely outweigh the benefits...and that is if there are any benefits at all from this action in the first place...). And I gotta understand as well that his writings were probably done in the heat of frustration and anger over his brother's career decision...
Anyway Alda, thanks for speaking on behalf of Malaysian's better musicians! |

anyway
that guy gave us examples of 'original' artists
yet if we look closely
there is nothing original among the examples given
the examples are:-
-Smashing Pumpkins
-U2
-311
-Tool
-Pink Floyd
tell me,how original are these bands? _________________ http://www.adzakael.com |

aldatan, thanks for being truthful for admitting about the remark. I always appreciate and respect honest human beings.
By the way, there are nice looking Malay, Chinese, Indian, Mixed Race, Orang Asli, etc in this country. Frankly speaking a lot of Malaysian Chinese who come to KL from outside KL think that Malay girls are the hottest in the city I think our country will be completely mixed up with all the races if religion is not a factor.
Frankly speaking, I have been told by my mother that our family isn't pure Chinese too. We have Thai or Malay (my mother isn't sure of which one) ancestor too. |

On the subject of me striving for originality, here's my post in jamtank concerning this same blog:

So to sum it up, original or not, western or local, it doesn't matter, people are too obsessed with being different and fresh that they forgot the most important thing, having fun and having fun making something good, in this case making good music and having fun doing it.
So to hell with being different, just have fun and make good music for us to enjoy. Even if your music aren't very good and probably not very 'original', it's still better than some guy who sits in front of his pc everyday ranting about how this and that sucks when he didn't even look at himself in the mirror first.

A damn good point there mate. I went through a phase where I wanted to be really different and very original...to the point of adopting techniques that i'm not comfortable with and writing songs for the sake of being different. These could have felt natural in some musicians if they have found their own voice in that very genre of 'new' music that they've created...and congratulations to them if they ended up with music that comes from their heart which is relatively original at the same time.
But unfortunately it didnt work for me at all, because this effort of mine of trying too hard to be original, ended up with me 'being less of myself' and not playing from my heart. At the early stage of my guitar playing days, I was a mere wannabe/clone of my idols, and after some time in the process of developing my musical identity, I ended up working too hard at trying to be different and ended up 'faking' myself on songwriting and the guitar. So after that, I chilled out a bit and told to myself, whatever it is, I'm gonna play from my heart and just bare my soul through my music. If it sounds like someone else, then I wouldnt want to get too uptight about it...as long as I know that whatever it is, that's my soul talking through my music.
I use to be offended if someone says that I sound too much like 'this guy', but not anymore. If someone says that I'm just a mere Steve Vai/Steve Lukather/Satriani clone...I would response with 'Thanks man! You made my day...lemme buy you lunch!"
But still, if someone says I'm a clone of Izo XPDC....I think I'll be kinda offended... (ok...I hope people get the joke...)
But back to the point, between listening to someone who is good and original and someone who is good but less original, I would probably prefer the more original one. But if given between the choice of music which is original but leaves me cold and music which is kick-ass though less original, I would opt for the kick-ass one.
In the end...it's whether it's kick-ass or not which is the most important factor to me.

yeah, i love malaysia for being the diverse country it is, but there are just some things about certain races that irks me. we all have out downers, but i'm really pissed off about the chinese believes and certain tradional values..hehehe
why cant we all just be called Malaysians? instead of chinese malaysians, indian malaysians or malays? eh, wait, only the malays get to call themselve malaysians? wierd....see my point? that muhibah la....which is sad...hehe
dont get me started with Chinese taxi drivers and their insults on me just because i cant bloody speak chinese....hahahaha
=)
but its all in good nature fun la....sooner or later we should learn to laugh at ourselves....thats the best way to make it not an issue... |

hehe laugh at ourselves?
i remember david letterman saying in one of his shows
"what kind of desperate human beings have we bceome if we cant even laugh at ourselves?"
but then again, thats probably his justification of hosting a show that makes fun of ppl mostly. But its true, but im afraid humility doesnt seem to be a Malaysian trait...anything gets screwed up here and the first thing that happens is a big "I DIDNT DO IT!! HE/SHE/THEY DID IT!" (jsut look at mess of that AP fiasco).
Anyway, when i was in JB working ..which was sometime in 1991 or so, i remember Singapore had a sort of a hidden camera show , kidna like Candid Camera. It only lasted ONE episode. The producers recieved law suits the next day the show was aired. Saman malu la..i forgot what the legal term for it is. I cant say if the same might happen if we had a Candid Camera show here too...
again back to the david letterman qoute. |

I have big BEEF with Chinese cab drivers.
From Jln Sultan Ismail, i wanted to go to Times Square. Hailed a cab, got in, revealed my destination, cab driver say ok. He was trying to be friendly, chit chat abt the traffic, less than 10 meters ( lunch time traffic) i asked him in canto " u gonna follow the meter?"
Cabbie: "Err, usually during this time, we charge extra RM2 ontop of the meter"
Screw this rubbish. I told him to stop the car and got off without a word. Id rather sweat it out. Not to my surprised, as i walked to my destination and passed a bus stop, i saw the same cab just chillin and waiting for the next customer. I gave him the thumbs up sign.
I dont understand. The distance from Sultan Ismail to Times Square is not to say very far. And the traffic is still negotiable, but he'd rather sit there and wait for some potential customers to overcharge rather than making some honest money. Ive encountered this sort of cabbies, mostly are Chinese. _________________ My Music...

chinese taxi drivers... malay taxi drivers... indian taxi drivers... suma sama! i rather walk or use the lrt or monorail or the bus than using a cab. i had an experience when i asked the cab driver why his using this way (because it was the long way). he took it as an offence and started yelling at me. gile betul! _________________ "life is what you make it"

About these taxi drivers, sometimes takleh nak salahkan diorang jugak, sebab diorang macam kena tekan, tengok hari tu kononnye tambang naik, tapi diorang kena cas rm70 + puspakom punya duit untuk test. sampai ada satu teksi driver cerita, dia test kat puspakom RM40, pastu fail sebab dia punya meter lambat. Dia cakap la, customer lagi untung la camtu, tapi puspakom fail kan jugak, kena la bayar lagi sekali and test again...gila betul...
Tak silap aku kat Singapore memang ada surcharge rush hour... seingat aku la. Kena bayar extra 1 Sing dollar kot... Kita kat Malaysia takde, kesian jugak kat driver teksi nih. Unless yang memang macam cibai la. Aku ada kena sekali aku nak balik ke Cheras from Puduraya, hala pegi ikut meter 7 ringgit lebih sikit, aku bayar 8 ringgit. Hala balik ada teksi driver tu nak cas aku RM20....kepala hotak dia berjambul... kalau yang stok macam ni memang nak kena la.... _________________ Can you feel the groove? |
