before this, i ususally dont care about the tuning method becoz i thought that metallica were cool with standard tuning.. now, this is probably the stupid question a guitarist should ask, but i dnt mind.. i'm desperate !!!
p/s: i did try to name the 6th string to c and start tuning from there.. but, the sound just wont match... n im getting more n more confuse..
1. how do u tune c f a# d# g c ?????
2. care to write a short tuning lesson..
plss doc..

fReqZz...alamak...this one I need to ask for help from the rest of the i-banders!
I've been stuck with standard tuning all my life too! 
So....anybody here.....any tips for fReqZz and me? |

when talk about tuning, the thing to have is ear and hear. How to teach tuning with writing?
but i think the thing you should consider first is your string gauge. With lite gauge for low E string such as 0.38 / 0.42 / 0.46 may buzzes to your guitar frets and wont vibrate effectively.
one more thing is -- get a tuner dude!

first of all - CHANGE YOUR STRING GAUGE... get the Ernie Ball - Not Even Slinky set, last time i checked it's available at Bentley for RM22.
| Code: | | .12 .16 .24p .32 .44 .56 |
or if you wish to have a lighter gauge, get the Beefy Slinky:
| Code: | | .11 .15 .22p .30 .42 .54 |
both can be used to drop your tuning to C... it's easy to tune it with these set of gauges!
by the way, metallica pon dah tukar tune ke drop C! heheh no more standard tune, ikut trend music terkini...

ceh sempat kutuk pulak tu..!
aku pasal masa belajar guitar dulu dah start dgn standard tune.. susah pulak nak tukar pastu nak beljar balik scale.. nak rememorize the freboard lagi.. huhuuu..
tapi logically, tujuan alternate tuning tak lain tak bukan untuk memudahkan lagi utk form power chord dan utk reach low note without using 7 string guitar..

the idea of low tuning ni dah lama di praktik oleh band2 death metal sejak zaman awal 90'an dulu.. tapi baru kini di popularkan oleh band2 nu-metal... pasal depa nak layan banging, tapi sound nak power dan taknak concerntrate chording yg susah2, so pakai la drop tuning utk senang main power chord! hahaah then bila dah low tune tu, sound pon garang la skit... baru la metal, tapi nu-metal la hehehe
aku tak biasa nak main low tune nih, sakit jari ooo pakai gauge tebal2 nih! nak solo pon tak best... melecet je memanjang...

Sorry morry...tadi aku ingat soalan tu pasal alternative tuning...he he...silap baca!...But anyway...semua rakan2 i-bands kita are sharing their tuning secrets...so let's all learn together  |

Not all alternate tunings mengikut undang2 tu fReqZz, kalau drop-C ke, drop-D tuning ke memang ikut that concept (except 6th string) :
E-A-D-G-B-E
D-A-D-G-B-E (drop D)
C-G-C-F-A-D (drop C)
sepertikata deadzid, tujuan sebenar masakini oleh numetalboys tune like this menyenangkan power chords playing, eg. kalau standard tuning nak main power chord 'D' normally guna 3 jari, kalau in drop-C, just barre kan satu jari je. Infact, ALL the powerchords just by barring your index finger... boleh la main 10 chords dalam masa satu saat 
Contohnya...
i've played drop-D tuning SEKALI saja sejak start main guitar selama ni... itu pun baru2 ni je realize, drop-D tu nama glamour dia, sebenarnya just tunekan only the 6th string 1-tone lower... boleh la main lagu MrBig 'just take my heart' tanpa mengelupur stretch jari macam allan Holdsworth.. |

yap.. paul gilbert mmg ada trick dgn tuning dalam beberapa lagu dia.. (itu pun aku tgk video tutorial dia)..
so kalau nak buat lick pelik2, cuba la alternatif tuning pastu goreng je mcm biasa.. mesti bunyi pelik keluar.. kalau tak sumbang pun, jd mambang muehehheh..
