A Malaysian men's magazine may be censured for a cover featuring a semi-nude female model draped in the national flag that has sparked an uproar among Muslims, a senior official said Monday.
The pictures in the August edition of Sensasi Lelaki, or Men's Sensation, is an insult to the national flag and disrespectful to the country as it prepares to mark National Day on Wednesday, said Deputy Internal Minister Noh Omar. The magazine will be asked to give an explanation for its move before the government decides whether to take further action including revoking its publication permit, Noh said.
"The publisher is insensitive to the status and integrity of the national flag... the parties concerned should give valid reasons for publishing the picture," Noh was quoted as saying by the national Bernama news agency.
Noh and his aides were not immediately reachable for comments. The magazine was still on sale in newsstands.
The cover page and centerfold of the magazine show <b>23-year-old air stewardess Aida Khurniah wrapped in the national flag, posing sexily with her thighs and part of her chest exposed</b>, but the shots are relatively tame by Western standards.
In an article accompanying the pictures titled "Lighting the Fire of Patriotism," she urged Malaysians to fly the national flag ahead of National Day.
<b>"I think the fire of patriotism has long fizzled out in the souls of our people... don't let it stay that way," she was quoted as saying.</b> Skimpy attire is frowned upon in this predominantly Muslim nation that bans publications featuring nudity and what authorities deem pornographic.
The Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress over the weekend lodged a police complaint against the magazine, saying the "obscene" pictures had tarnished the country's image.
Malaysia will mark its National Day on Aug. 31, the date it won independence from Britain 48 years ago. The government is pushing its citizens to fly the flag, known as "Jalur Gemilang" or Stripes of Glory, to show their love for the country.
"Perhaps the (magazine) just did not know the significance of the national flag or they are too enthusiastic about celebrating National Day," Noh said.

my opinion... tak salah langsung.. kat mana yg salahnya? kenapa govt nak melenting lak? selama ni pun banyak dah banyak gambo aweks2 separa bogel dlm majalah2 kat malaysia... adakah kerana jalur gemilang dijadikan pakaian untuk tutup bahagian2 yg terlalu sensitif tu di jadikan isu? adakah perbuatan menjadikan jalur gemilang tu pakaian dianggap menghina kesucian dan martabat jalur gemilang? kalo begitu, kenapa arwah sudirman buat jalur gemilang jd baju melayu tak dijadikan isu malah dijadikan contoh semangat patriotik. kan ke same je, untuk tutup bahagian sensitif??? to become a piece of cloth??? aku pun pening la ngan peel our govt. _________________ b like what u want to b |

Kemerdekaan ada BOTH national AND individual interpretations. Bendera tu symbol negara kita & kemerdekaan kita. How much we value our 'bendera' is hak individual, nak kebarkan di jendela ke, biarkan atas kereta sampai hitam ke, buat kain buruk ke, up to individual. BUT bila dah buat fashion-statement to the public, kena lah sensitive, sebab it may intrude national & other individuals more sober & conservative interpretations of the National flag. |

Pada aku la, aku rasa dia punya silap tu, dia pakai seksi, which is not a norm in Malaysia. That is her only mistake. Kalau dia ni Singaporean ke, American ke, Japanese ke, takkan ada apa uproar pun. Kalau kat US tu lagi pulak. Bikini patern US flag pun ada. Apa nak heran... Pada aku, I don't think that she is disrespecting the flag.
Besides lah, I think the magazine puublisher/editor/photographer lah yang perlu tapis benda-benda macam ni. They should be more responsible and sensitive to the values that the Malysian people "upholds" (I use this term loosely lah )
Tapi aku rasa this is not something yang perlu di repot pada polis. Sapa yang pegi report polis tu must have nothing better to do than make other peoples lives miserable... _________________ Can you feel the groove? |

double standard lain dude. kalau Lelaki berkemban .. dikategorikan OK.. but pompuan berkemban tak OK.. ni baru double standard.
although arwahnya sudirman pun "memakai" bendera, tapi cara pemakaiannya lain.
aku mmg sensitive pasal bendera2 ni. almaklum lah.. Boy Scout. hormat bendera.. lipat elok2.. bla bla..kawat bendera.. penyerahan bendera. dah mengalahkan askar. haha. berjalan dari bandor batu pahat sampai Minyak Beku semata2 nak dapatkan lencana. cheh.
in short.. apa yg minah ni buat. tak appropriate utk tatapan umum rakyat Malaysia yg penuh dgn sifat sopan santun dan keayuan. Walaupun pada hakikatnya... tiap tiap malam sabtu rakyat malaysia semua jadi layu
But melampau ler kalau nak report2 polis. _________________ [ Kluk Kluk Adventure ] | [ Call the Paramedics ] | [ Dot ] | [ AJEEPEK ] |

i'm sure kalo lelaki yg berkemban dgn bendera tu, mesti tak jadi isu kan? < adakah ini masih bukan double standard? aku bukan sokong pompuan tu wat camtu kat bendera kita, aku pun tak suka... tapi... tu lah hakikatnya... double standard... _________________ b like what u want to b |
