So you use linux, or have a linux computer on your network that you want to make use of to compose music with?

µ (mjoo) is a new kind of live composition software for the Linux operating system, introducing radical new user interface concepts.
µ is a powerful toy which assists an electronic music artist in creating electronic music, offline (in a studio) or live (in front of an audience). It can be used for all lifecycle stages of an electronic music track:
* Recording from MIDI and audio gear, offline and live
* Defining MIDI and audio graphs using instrument- and effect plugins
* Arranging recorded MIDI and audio material
* Mixing offline and live audio material
* Mastering mixed audio material
Synaesthetic User Interface
While those features are common to computer-aided composition programs, µ provides a new user interface paradigm which is focused on playfulness, quick understanding and high creativity output rate, addressing novices and professionals alike:
* µ invites the user to play with the applications' possibilities and thus avoids the frustration typically introduced by technically focused user interfaces.
* Music can be composed using tools adequate to its mental projection. What is shown is in close relation to what is imagined and, ultimately, heard.
* Informations are displayed graphically, making use of geometry and colors. Being able to read or calculate with numbers is not an user requirement. µ does not contain any texts or numbers.
* Complex tasks are explained by live tutorial movies. Reading a manual is not an user requirement.
This new paradigm abandons the traditional elements of computer-aided composition known from programs such as Steinberg Cubase or Emagic Logic, and might appear confusing and irregular to the advanced user. Therefore, the novice user is the primary target of this application.
Etc, etc, etc....

Now I know there are other programs to use under *nix systems, but I am utterly sure 98% of people here [or more] are not familiar with a "tracker" or "tracker" based environment so this will be a great alternative over what's available. There isn't that many choices anyhow haha, so give it a shot, it looks promising (besides the fact my friends are coding it hehe). I hope it develops into something great.
PS - I forgot to mention, it's still alpha stage of dev if you haven't noticed so you can't do much with it [yet]. Will update you guys of course within due time. _________________ A Standard Deviation from a Prophylactic-type Syndrome |
