New StudioPro 3 Monitors from M-Audio
M-Audio has announced the new StudioPro 3 desktop audio monitors.
The affordable, compact StudioPro 3 monitors bring professional design and material standards to a sub-$100 price point according to the company. These include MDF rather than plastic cabinets, fiberglass insulation for better bass response, custom port design for optimal efficiency, and more.
The StudioPro 3's 3.25" low-frequency drivers feature a curved cone for improved linearity, acoustic foam damping for optimal efficiency, and a high-temperature voice coil for longevity. The specially developed 1" high-frequency domes deliver natural response and feature internal damping technology to minimize unwanted resonances. Both drivers are magnetically shielded to protect computer and video monitors from interference.
The StudioPro 3s deliver their bass response without artificial electronic enhancements. The custom bass-reflex port design discharges very low frequency signals and works with the woofer and cabinet to reproduce bass signal. The rear-panel Bass Boost control allows you to add low-frequency gain and makes the monitors versatile for different spaces and listening preferences.
In order to provide more stable performance, the StudioPro 3s are constructed from a special medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with unique interior reinforcement designed to absorb vibration and impact generated under extreme conditions.
The active equalization, crossover networks, and power amplifiers for the StudioPro 3s are specially designed to work optimally with their low- and high-frequency drivers. The network distributes the frequency spectrum to the proper components in order to minimize distortion and achieve a balanced sound.
In addition to the main RCA input jacks on the rear, there's also a stereo Aux input on the front panel for easy connection of devices like portable music players. There's also a convenient front-panel stereo headphone output that mutes the sound from the monitors for private listening. In addition, the StudioPro 3s contain an internal power supply that can operate with AC power sources ranging from 100V to 240V (50-60Hz), allowing you to use them anywhere in the world.
Since high-frequency audio signals tend to be fairly directional, M-Audio has included stands that help point the StudioPro 3s directly at the listener's ears for an optimal "sweet spot."
Specifications for the StudioPro 3 include 100Hz - 20kHz 3 dB frequency response, 2.3kHz crossover frequency, greater than 80dB dynamic range (typical, A-weighted), input impedance of 10k ohms unbalanced and input sensitivity of 90dBA SPL at 1 meter with 100mV pink noise input (volume control at maximum).
The StudioPro 3s are expected to ship this week and carry an MSRP of $99.95 USD. -- HC
