What do u generally think of the hawkers in Petaling Street?
Me??...I have no respect for them at all because they show no respect to their customers. I have stopped going there for years due to the rudeness of them. My wife was victimised last weekend with words like "What are u looking at? u wanna buy, buy! If not, go away". My wife just walked off, of course. If I were there, I would have shown the old lady my middle finger.
These hawkers are also not honest at all. They would raise up the price if you look innocent/foreign to them. |

not all of them are like that..some of them are pretty nice. But you have a point there..generally theyre tend to insult ppl alot.
However, there was this one time when i saw a customer who actually deserved it...i guessed from her dressing she was a uni or uitm student, those girls tend to dress alike. Anyway, she was looking at this bag, and asked the price for it, then said it was too expensive..so the hawker kasi less and less, and she kept wanting more discount, each time saying its too expensive. Anyway i wasnt paying much attention cos i was looking at this calvin and hobbs t-shirt, then after a few minutes i heard her say 'alaa tak nak ah, bukannye ori pun'..then started walking away.. and the hawker started cursing her and she does that 'i cant hear what youre saying' sorta look...so they chased after her and she had to run and they were calling her and cursing her and stuff...it was funny in a sort of screwed up way i guess. Still...poor girl.. and poor hawker too. lol. |

hmmm..... most of the hawkers are damm nice to me. they call me leng lui wanna buy ornot.
then i say dowan.. they be like, we belanja u drink la... and then ask for my phone number.
to be honest, i have never stumbled upon a rude hawker before, not in a lifetime.
the only rude people i happen to come across and snapped back was people from high end boutiques.
bloody bitch was so rude to me, i said that style isn't me. and they were like don't spoil my clothes.
i turned around and said, what did u say?
when i say that style was not for me, does not mean i am here to window shop! i don't window shop by the way.
And you are not even a fashion designer, just a customer service person, i suggest u build more on customer relations, because you are about to lose one already.
By the way, you are the most rudest person i have ever seen, but i pity you, jobs are hard to find these days.
i can afford the clothes in this boutique, i doubt u bought any clothes from here eventhough you work here.
so have a nice day. _________________ "Thus let my enemy's blood be spilled

Irene...next time u let me know when u go there...I'll ask u to buy things for me. Maybe I don't speak Cantonese. Maybe I look like an asshole. Maybe I am easy to bully. Maybe I have a "I hate Petaling Street assholes" written on my forehead.
Generally, I think Chinese hawkers are more rude than other races...HK influenced maybe. Usually if there are two shops selling the same item in KL/PJ, I prefer to go into the non-Chinese one...coz I hate it when I am forced to speak Cantonese |

Actually, The "HK disease" was in Singapore too. A friend and I asked for the price of cameras. My friend asked "How much is this?". The woman asked my friend, "do u have any money?". My friend said "no". The woman "come back when u have the money". We just walked off and never returned. By the way, my friend was from Netherlands although he's a Chinese. The woman mistaken us as locals and looked down on us. If my friend was white, I am sure he would get a different treatment.
The woman had such a low IQ that people used credit card and ATM card instead of cash. Who brings so much money walking all around?? |

well..in their defence...i have a few friends working in the retail industry, some shops here and there and they ahve their arguments as to why they treat some customers shitty. THey say theres 2 types of customers, the ones yang bagi senang hati, and the ones yang bagi sakit hati. With experience they say u can pick them out easily...and treat them accordingly...mane yang boleh layan, mane yang tak yah layan...tak tahu la...it is a business afterall, and moneys is always the concern. But i guess what they were saying is, just as we nice consumers hate snobby shop owners, nice shop owners tend to hate snobby customers too. |

well this kinda things never happened to me in Jakarta. Me and my bro lived there for 6 years and eventhough we were kids, going to any types of shops or boutique.. they still layan us in a very very polite manner. it was a very nice place to be! I love every moment of it. I saw that they treated their own locals the same.
unlike HK.. I just couldn't wait to get back home after spending just 1 night there!! Terrible!
for Malaysia.. most of the time it's like the sellers macam tamau layan sangat the local people. I rather buy things at a slightly higher prices but being treated and attended properly than buying at a cheaper place ran by assholes. _________________ [ Kluk Kluk Adventure ] | [ Call the Paramedics ] | [ Dot ] | [ AJEEPEK ] |

Ya, I think u'll get special treatment if you're a white in Malaysia. I am not sure about the treatment of blacks or Arabs, etc. I brought along my Polish sister-in-law or her friend (also Polish) to buy some PC hardware, usually they got special treatment. I was there just to make sure they're not ripped off. Now my sister-in-law can bargain even better than me now - very Malaysian indeed .
A lot of shops act like "tak mau layan" attitude here. I definitely agree with Ajeep. It's very sickening. Normally I would just walk away unless I have no choice...then I would take revenge by purposely giving them big notes or just left the money on the counter and walk off....to show them I am pissed off.
I would say that I could not stand a famous nasi briyani shop along Sogo. I really didn't have any small change at that moment. They refused to give me small change and kept me waiting for a long time...in fact I could see small change in the drawer. I avoid the shop since that day.
There's a Chinese hardware shop in Uptown. I love going there because the shop keepers are very helpful and don't have sour faces...not because they're cheap. In addition, they can speak English...I have no problem communicating with the Indo worker in Malay. |

hoho DO NOT go to Petaling Street.. i repeat DO NOT go there!
i went there like a few years back and i saw this malay dude approaching a hawker stall selling t-shirts and stuff. he just looked and touched a t-shirt which was on display and one of the hawker jumped right in front of him and quoted the price of the t-shirt... just as the dude was about to go, another member of the hawker grabbed his arm and forced him to buy the t-shirt! i was like "what the f**k??"... they threatened the guy, saying "this is china-town, jangan main2 aa.. "
i quickly left the scene... takut oo! _________________ > facebook
