Have a Zoom 707-II and Line 6 Spider 30

I can't get a good sound if use the zoom on the spider. Yeah, I'm talking about the presets on the zoom. It's either too fuzzy, mellow sound, in short tak pueh hatilah. However, the sound is nice (bright) if I use the amp alone especially the spider metal channel. For clean channel, the chorus/flanger effect in the spider sounds more flangish than chorus (I hate it).

You: tweak the Zoom settings then!..
Me: mmm I have no idea what does what...
You: read the manuals dumbo!...
Me: I did! for the umpteenth time...
You: You so slowww one larrr brudder...
Me: Yeah..I know

I picked up electric guitar last 6 months.. so I dunno much about 'electric' tones and so on. I do play acoustic for pleasure previously. Didn't really listen to music except on road (free to air radio) since I got married 8 years ago. The worst.. I'm not even a heavy metal fan.. yeah Metallica included.. but I do listen to the 90s alternative dulu2 la.. Pearl Jam, STP. In short that shall explain my ignorance in 'electric tones'.

I end up using the zoom and the spider separately. I use the zoom for my ear only session (earphone), and the spider for my show-off in front of my 2 loyal and only fans session... actually 3 but the 3rd one is too young to be considered... wait until he's 2 yrs old.

The Q is, should I keep the zoom, give up the spider and get a non-simulated amp? OR give-up the zoom and the spider and get a better simulated amp?

And if you have time, share with me what you consider good distorted electric tone/sound.

TQ

okay, this is my opinion. you may or may not do this.
i've played the line 6 spider before and i really like the tone that comes out of it. i hardlyput any effects on it because the simulated thingy is enough i guess (but then again, i'm not the type who uses multiple effects apart from those delay, reverb & distortion). the part you said about the flanger is true though. you might one to play with your neck pickup if you play the flanger.

what guitar are you using anyway?
