Ok guys ...whats your definition of hardcore music?

Jimi Hendrix is probably more hardcore than Slipknot will ever be in that sense...

Slipknot? Hardcore?? Bwahahahahahahahahaha....... not in the slightest bit...

Hardcore can be used in a number of ways..

Hardcore Paranoia (mega paranoia)
Hardcore left-wing political party member - fanatic (sic)left-wing.....
Hardcore Metallica fan - Die hard metallica fan
Hardcore pornography - you know the one that shows everything

so in Music it's not that different...it can be hardcore dangdut for all i know.

But me thinks Hardcore music you are talking about is a heavy genre of music...that also lyrically deals with real life issues - political - enviromental or whatever.

i dont know maybe im talking out of my arse...

if we're talking about the Hardcore music, (early 90s HxC), normally rage & anger will be quite visible in their music. And normally they'll carry strong political messages & sometimes about things that going on in their neighbourhood. Musically more towards metal and also Punk. I always feel that both Punk & Hardcore have something in common. Both stresses more on the lyrics. It's not just hard pounding drums and screaming electric guitars.. it's the voice of the youth! woohooo.

hardcore music sprouted from several scenes almost simultaneously around USA circa early-ish 80s, derived partly from the roots of punk and general arnachism and a lot of overlap with the Skins scene too..

style is very angry screaming(mostly against the authorities obviously)+plus blistering guitars and lightning fast drumming(u know, like bunyi double pedal but without actually using a double pedal).can be very melodic too, like Fugazi.

the 2 most prominent hardcore scenes were the DC (as in Washington) and NY (as in New York...duh!!) scenes. some of the pioneers include Minor Threat(later to be rehashed in the form of Fugazi), Black Flag (henry rollins still rawking on into his 40s, god bless the guy for trying to break the movie scene..he wasn't bad in Heat though) and Sick of it All.

minor threat were so influential that they even started a new branch of the hardcore genre, known as Straight-Edge...basically similar music but followers of the scene abstained from hedonistic vices like sex, drugs and alcohol.

I'm not too clear about the new 'post-hardcore' genre that everyone keeps going on about...as far as i'm concerned, the hardcore scene never died, so how could there be a 'post'-hardcore genre?

it's the people who keep on saying it that actually gonna kill the hardcore music scene. from what I see here, the old doesn't quite recognized the new.. hence saying HC is dead just because they themselves are bored and tired of playing.

But how come elsewhere the HC scene is still alive and kicking? perhaps not like in their peak era but.. still there..

here it's like... okay this is the in thing.. lets play this.. oh noo it;s not anymore.. lets play that pulak... Confused
