Train To Ericland

This is a song that I wrote as a tribute to Eric Roche, a briliant British fingerstyle guitarist who recently passed away due to cancer.

He taught me a lot of cool things including how to play in DADGAD (tune down your guitar strings 6 and 1 to D and 2nd string to A), how to play percussively on the guitar and a lot of things relating to composing in general. This is inspired by the kind of things he played. Accompanying me on shaker is Zalila Lee. Besides the shaker, everything else is the acoustic guitar either being strumed, plucked, hammered or hit on the body all over.

Hi liquidjive,

Thanks for listening! As for the question, it's kind of hard for me to say and probably would be easier to show. I will be posting a video of a performance of this song in the future, most probably when I get back to KL late December.

Also, you might want to check out an upcoming guitar clinic/performance that I will be doing in January. I will be posting up details as it gets confirmed. Will definitely let you know.

The opening section of the song is pretty much played like how a classical guitar piece is played, the melody and the bassline is going on at the same time, fingered with the left hand and plucked by the right hand fingers. For the next section, I mostly hammer with my left hand and the percussive slaps are mostly with with my right hand. The hits on the guitar is hard to explain on writing though as it's a mix of both hands.

The song is in DADGAD (tune down your sixth string and first string to D, second string to A). It's a modal tuning and lends well to Major and MInor keys. Hope this helps!

UPDATE:

Tickets for the workshop are RM18 and includes a free set of acoustic guitar strings!

-----

Hi Izuan,

During the B Section of the song, the power chord parts are tapped with my left hand fingers and string slaps, percussive hits and harmonics are with my right hand.

In the C section for the tune, it gets a lil mixed up with my left hand hitting the side of the guitar in between as well.

It's a very visual approach and it really makes more sense to see than to hear. I will definitely perform this piece at the workshop!

Thanks for listening! =)

Az
