ok, here's the guide :

After you click the link, scroll down and select the 'free' type of download. After that wait for around 20 seconds, then the download link will appear.

Pls tell me if the methods don't work.

Hi,

ive been browsing in this section of song reviews and it looks like fun although i have not yet submitted my song for review in here.

so here's a try just to get bro Bode and bro aB to criticise my playing.

bros review 3 songs ok....

here is a song using all pentatonic scale and there is one section reminiscent of colorado bulldog pentatonic position shifts although this song is not technical but i like it though...

1. Get Real http://www.i-bands.net/audiovault/download.php?band_id=1433&song_id=5288&mode=song_hifi

2. Failed Attempt
http://www.i-bands.net/audiovault/download.php?band_id=1433&song_id=4723&mode=song_hifi

failed attempt nih i dunno what to say....just wanting to combine feel and some technical elements...what do you think bros?

3. Failed Attempt 2
http://www.i-bands.net/audiovault/download.php?band_id=1433&song_id=5480&mode=song_hifi

this is one song another version of failed attempt. this time i was just jamming improvising with a friend of mine hence the terrible phrasing and sound because we did not want to really make it as a demo just an improvising thing we did....

ok thats it....have a go and give your critics....

kalau nak dgr yg lain just go to

http://www.i-bands.net/audiovault/bands/1433/music.php

thx

Thanks ab!
Yeah...ab will be filling in for reviewing duties for the time being due to my inhumane work schedule(still struggling to fit my 1 hour a day practice routine). We tend to think alike about music anyway, so his opinions are likely to be the same as mine :

thank you.

Undefined,
bro, sorry for the delay. lots of other stuff at home&work to settle. here r my 20sen worth.

In general, (i) i think the two songs are well composed, possess good&listenable melodies -which i can hum to!!. not my cup of tea, but i think they are great songs really! (ii) i get quite distracted with the vocals, which i think fell short of the standard set by the music accompaniment.

Hikayat Penindasan - This is my favourite of the two tunes. I personally like how the song is structured. The backing guitar crystal sound (chorus+reverb & good eq) comes out bright & clear on my speakers, the distort. sound maybe a wee bit too bright, would prefer a warmer sound (higher low-mids),but ok. the bass line.. well, the groove sounded a bit 70's but i'm no bass expert.
Solo... hmm. it HAS a good storyline, i get the idea what you want to put forward and love it, BUT the execution fell short of the high expectation. For one, the sound/tone did not help - the overdrive lacked gain (even comp/sustain i think), making the solo runs sounding rather 'choked' - especially the 'picking' bit at the beginning. good idea, but polish the scaling a bit bro.

Sayurgia Khayalan - again, well structured. i like the clean guitar sound. (vary the bass line a bit! a bit too repetitive) solo, much better here though there are slight pitching glitches especially the last note. maybe a good yank of vibrato/trem would underline the intensity here (just an idea).

All in all, i think some polishing in the fret-work (when soloing) will nail it. And the distort.guitar sound : maybe the recording did not capture your 'real live' tones, so do a bit of post-recording tweaking. The ideas are there - that is always the difficult bit. it is so easy to solo on-and-on-and-on without a storyline. The two songs solos emphasised on 'feel' rather than rotor-skill-100notes per second solo. So, I would emphasis on the pitching, sustain & vibrato of each notes as any glitches will be very glaring to the listener. (kalau playing fast neck-breaking solos, sometimes you can escape with minor pitching inaccuracies...)

and last but not least, the vocals. i'm no expert in this department, but it is a pity it distracted me of the good backing music.

that's all bro. keep up the good work.

[size=12]Ok guys here's a clip from me. It's kinda half improvisation.
Mr Bode, please review my playing, tone, etc.. You guys too, please give me your comment.

Thank you!! Very Happy

Jailhouserock,
Ok, as this is an improvisation (i guess 'impromptu' too?) i assume this is just the 'intro & verse' of an incomlete song, so i won't comment much in terms of composition. here's my 20sen feedback.

is the song eventually going to be in acoustic, or is this just a rough capture of the melody?
The chords progression for the verse is quite common. i got a vague idea of the melody, however i had to listen to it a few times as (maybe) there are quite a few 'accidental scaling notes', which blurred the basic melody. in my opinion, maybe the first 2 rounds of the progression should focus on the melody, to give the listener the 'mood' of the song.

You asked about the 'tones'. obviously the 'clip' fall short of the final-production quality, so can't comment much. just that, like everything else, make sure a good quality acoustic sound - good sounds will give good vibes, to both you, and us the listeners. my personal choice would be to have a distinct sound between the 'backing acoustic' and 'solo acoustic'. just to emphasis the story i want to tell - of course this is subjective as many songs' 'mood' too are driven by the chordings/voicings rather than 'solos'. However, as the chords in your clip are quite 'common', i'd choose a distinct solo sound.

Mixing levels of the backing & solo parts - a bit uneven as the solo parts are sometimes drowned by the backing.

Execution of the notes - some pitching glitches especially on bends & vibrato.

I'm very interested to hear the whole song actually. i can relate the melody so far, with the feeling of your entitled clip "homesick". hope you can develop & complete it.

Sorry if the notes above sounded macam "pandai komen je".

Hey aB,

Thanks a lot for the comment. It's great to know that you can relate the melody that I tried to express. When I listen it back, the rhythm sounds like the 'blue moon' song. Anyway, I need some ear training cuz I didn't notice the out of tune parts! Laughing

Thanks again! Smile

Salam Sejahtera,

Minta tolong ulas/ kritik gitar solo.

Lagu tu separuh jalan aje, tak siap lagi. Lagu nie di buat oleh another forumer.

Update:

Terima kasih

halo bro,
i like the song. the guitar parts in the middle brings up the sombre mood. of course la datang dari generasi rock 80'an i have my personal wish (banyak kan solo!) But, in general the songwriting & arrangement are cool. good stuff.

First of all, I would like to apologise for the lack of my involvement in guitar playing reviews lately, which is due to commitments to my work. I hope to get back to reviewing some time in the future.

Just like all of you, I am still learning to play and I need to re-evaluate my playing as well, and need pointers and tips from everyone, no matter whether they are beginners or even virtuosos. So right now I've been submitting solo clips for review in a few international forums, mainly the official Guthrie Govan, John Petrucci and Steve Vai forums.

This is the clip that I posted for review:
HIFI
LOFI
DOWNLOAD

(I submitted 'Shyboy' for review on Steve Vai's forums as well.)

Here are the threads in the respective forums:
http://www.online-discussion.com/GuthrieGovan/viewtopic.php?t=700&start=0
http://www.petrucciforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31160&page=1
http://www.vai.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16293

There are so many great and scary shredders on the above forums(a lot of these guys should be playing in G3!!! Shocked ), but they are all very friendly and helpful in giving tips for improvement. So if you wanna post a clip of your solos for reviews, I'm sure you can learn a lot from them too.

I hope to upload another solo clip for reviews there next, which is an unfinished rough sketch of a project between Ridzi and me:
HIFI
LOFI
DOWNLOAD

Everybody here is very much welcomed to offer their opinion/reviews too Smile

(Bode dissappears into the sunset....going back to square one to learn the guitar and looking for teachers... Smile)
