ok, lets start...
i have plans to change my guitar neck.
so i went to Acoustic Shack wit Dufresne to get a quotation on a custom neck
and got to know that Jeffry Wong of GIM is the person who does all of Acoustic Shacks workmanship.
so aku nak tanye korang, ape pendapat korang pasal Jeffry and his workmanship.
kat Acoustic Shack ade some GIM guitars, so Dufresne tried some as i stood watchin, they were very good, tone wise, sound, and workmanship.
the problem is, Jeffry has a bad rep (in Jamtank), mmg kena kutuk kaw2,
so it's unsettleing, in one hand, you have a guy wit a bad rep, on the other hand, the guitars were good.
so we need ur opinion on this matter.
have u guys dealt wit Jeffry before..??
have u guys any experience wit GIM's guitars..?? pernah try ke..??
are there any other ppl more suitable to do the job besides Jeffry..??

| yeah, i heard a lot of bad things about GIM... pastu, GIM nie slalu buat projek dgn sorang mamat nie, buat guitar drp guitar murah (such as SX...) then taruk brand yg branded, jual harga mahal... xtau la btul ker x... |

Pendapat aku macam ni,
Seperti yg kita tau GIM ni ada bukak kelas utk guitar building. Aku pernah dtg sekali kat kilang guitar dia kat Pandan (masa tu aku nak beli kayu Nyatoh nak buat body guitar, hangat2 tahi ayam je), tapi masa aku dtg tu aku tak nampak jefry pun. Yang ada cuma beberapa org 'kakitangan' dia yg tgh sibuk potong kayu dan tgh buat guitar akustik dan Ghazal. Kesimpulan dari situ, aku rasa yg menyebabkan bad reputation tu ialah pelapis2 dia yg kurang berpengalaman. Jefry is an expert yg dah tak turun padang kot.. hehhe.. pakai KULI jer..
Kalau ko dah siap test dan ko kata sedap dan tone wise, ape ko nak dgr ckp org lagi.. ON JER terus! kalau ada apa2 berlaku kemudian hari pun, at least ko ada real experience to learn from dan itu bukan dari ckp2 orang..
anyway, berapa kos ko tukar neck tu? last time aku pergi (3 tahun lepas) tanya body strat kayu snake skin(Nyatoh) harganya RM380.

kalo ko org important dlm industri, die layan baik2 punye, so workmanship pon top notch la. tp kalo ko nobody, selekeh la die buat.
customer service, virtually none. slalu mengelak drpd jumpe customer yg request customer service. (usually those who are fed up wit waiting for their order to be completed)
terhegeh2, mmg lambat nak siapkan oder.
ni la yg aku denga & terbaca. kat Jamtank ade banyak bincang pasal GIM.
but on ur own discretion-la, ade yg kutuk tanpa apa2 basis, ade yg cite drpd pengalaman. cth-nya Mr. Riki Rahman, cite pengalaman mmbr die (if memory serves me right)

cite mcm tu aku x penah denga lg, but ade jugak la denga that wood quality is not what that it is said to be, quality tu rendah la sket. but not very sure of this, its what i've heard, can't comfirm it

mmg sound bes, for something that selama ni org perlekeh2 kan, mmg kiteorg tak bajet sound mcm tu.suprised la...
tp susah gak la, sbb Dufresne mmg terer gile, test thru Rivera Knucklehead 100watt tube head thru half stack (4x12 Celestion greenbacks) mmg la sound bes.
walaupon aku punye judgement is a bit blured, yg mane sound amp, yg mane tone gitar, yg mane skill mmt tu.
tp aku percaya ckp mmt tu. aku tgk muke pon dah tau dah, mmg die enjoy gile2 main.

ape ko cakap, there is a posibility la, sbb mmg GIM org recognise Jeffry sorang je la, so baik buruk jatuh atas nama mmt tu.

so the basic is RM780 and its + - from there, mcm nak birds eye maple tambah sket, kalo ko supply hardware sendiri kurang la sket harge and vice versa.

He did a great job for me(because he knew that I do sessions and I'm Man Keedal's friend)
But he did a crap job for my friend...whom he is not aware of his virtuosity(well actually he gave the job to one of his students...but he charged full price). |

Cartman & i are the culprits for this thread, hehe...
So...since aku yg test gitar tu td, its better la kalo aku citer skit plak...
Ok, gitar yg aku main tu, blh jd GIM "original model" guitar. Aku letak telinga (" ") sbb ade design features pd gitar tu, kalo GIM decided to mass produced the axe, mmg blh kena saman la, huhu...
So aku test gitar tu. Suma bende top notch, Gotoh gold-colored parts, mahogany body + flame maple top, maple neck + ebony fretboard. Hooked up to the Knucklehead, i just let it rip. I didnt touch the EQ on the amp, just the tone & volume knobs on the guitar, nak main2 dgn sound dia. Despite the rusted strings, which was a turn-off while i was playing it, it had a very nice sustain, smooth mid range tone, not too bassy, which was a surprise la for a mahogany body.
Overall, its a good axe, if not great. And for the price, its competitive for the market. Kalo aku ade duit byk tu td, aku dah beli dah, hehe...
So the moral of the story; Jeffry & GIM mmg byk bad rep, & jarang giler la nak dgr citer2 positive psal dorang. But now there r actually proof the he can make good quality stuff...
