Bossa/Swing you mean? jazz is too generalize.some of it have just a single chord for a few minutes
imo the easiest way to improvise jazz solo is copy paste...take george's benson's lick ..find out what chord is used during the lick and nail it
anyway..why ppl hate u lar?the mastering thread izzit ? lolz..i like the way you post ..all you need is a little humor inside _________________ gapnap.com

Setahu aku, jazz evolved from the Blooz. Here's a video of Joe Pass fusing them both:

Oh yeah... Sorry you guys for me being too straight forward... I'm quite straight forward when people criticize me sometimes...
Yeah you can copy other people's licks, but til when? Someday you gotta make up your own licks, your own trademark (Listening to Eric Johnson's Trademark from the album Ah Via Musicom) haha...
Improvising using broken chords (arpeggios) is another easy way to improvise, and sometimes when you're getting a melody from nowhere in your mind, just apply it. Another way, listen to the singing melody, and brainstorm your way into improvising using the singing melody. That's usually how I improvise on jazz. But still, until now jazz is the hardest music I've ever learned other than classical music.
Jazz doesn't really evolve itself from the blues, it is the blues who evolved itself from jazz. Jazz evolve more from classical. Take this term; classical musicians learn the rules of music theory and never break them, and jazz breaks every classical rules of music theory whenever they need to. That's what my lecturer taught me though... That's why people in ICOM had to go through all those lame classical music sometimes, although the college is a jazz college.
About chord progressions, it is all depending on the key (scale) of the music. Like Jerome Kern's All The Things You Are, the key of the song is an Ab Major, so the chord Ab Major would be considered as a I chord, coz Ab is the first note of the scale. Conclusion: Chord progressions like I II V and etc. follows the degree of the scale.
Why don't you guys try this out: find out what chords are in Maroon 5's Sunday Morning. The key is a C Major and the chord progressions are II-V-I.
Good luck! |

I like to think of 'jazz' and 'blues' as subgenres of African American music. |

yeah.i am learning appregios to improv on jazz too.but remember..we talked about the easiest eh ? appregio improv on jazz isn't easy man..it can be really complicated like using a Eb7majdimiasjanfklaf appregio when your root chord is G7 or something
