omar, you listen to rush too? cool!!
aku ni late starter sangat2, and following erotomania's advice i finally found moving pictures, farewell to kings, permanent waves and hemispheres on vinyl for cheap!! the funny thing is with work being so bloody hectic, i've not time to listen to any of em yet...
ya, they are doing a 30th anniv tour around north america and europe. its great that they are still around, esp neil peart. with his personal tragedies and all...imagine losing your daughter and wife in the span of 10 months!!
erotomania:
talking about peart's personal tragedy, i'm currently reading his book 'ghost rider: the healing road'. he's so well read and i can see why his lyrics are well written!
and of course, man, can he play the drums!!!!!

oh never heard of that book... yeah quite sad! RUSH almost disbanded then
from what I think, he's kind of an opinionated guy. Kind of egoistic, and very private... one of the few living legends. and he likes to cycle across continents too, if i'm not mistaken _________________ http://mindcontrolled.bravehost.com

AKu pun baru discover RUSH, but Geddy Lee punya vocals, it's an acquired taste. Anyway, my fave RUSH track is Fly By Night, I LOVE the Basslines, and it's really poppy, and I dig Tom Sawyer too, the part where the synth, guitar and bass plays that riff, gila cun |

ramses:
hahaha. you are right about lee's vocals. my friend when he first listened to some live stuff they did in 1978 almost went "whaddaf...."
erotomania:
i've listened to those albums i bought as recommended. you are right. 'moving pictures' is THE shit, although a lot of the more famous tunes i've already heard. red barchetta was one that i've never listened to until then. thanks again, mate!
oh ya..you said something about their 80s stuff being kinda 'synth'-y. 'grace under pressure', is that any good? or should i avoid their 80s stuff like the plague...
btw, i'm trying to learn 2112. the overture and temple of syrinx. the other bits tak minat/tak berani..hahaha. i think they play it full step down (from what i can see on the live dvd) but i like it better with a drop d (actually i just cant be arsed )

Wonder why I haven't got involved with this thread?
Because I can't stand Rush.

i'm not sure about the egotistical side of him. from interviews and his writings, he doesnt seem (to me) to have a big ego (egotistical drummers? lars ulrich..thats an example ). but you are right, he is a very private person. i suppose 'shy' people do come across as being stand offish.
he cycled around africa, and wrote a book called 'the masked rider' or something like that... _________________ "my small self...like a book amongst the many on a shelf.."

hey krik, how's it going. I'm not an expert on RUSH by any means, and I actually love synths in rock music, I just wanted to mention that it's different from say 2112 or Fly by Night 'guitar-driven' rock. ala Van Halen's 'Jump'. Took people by surprise. I don't have most of those later albums, so i can't really say, just a few songs off the live DVDs....
I think 'Red Sector A' is great. But donno about the rest of the album.. doc?
love Red Barchetta! Favourite! kekeke _________________ http://mindcontrolled.bravehost.com
