Hi,

May I know what's the difference between ZOOM GFX8 and GFX5?

Zoom GFX8 is more expensive but seems to have lesser effects (69 effect programs) compared to GFX5 (74 effect programs)... Does anyone know why?

What's the advantage GFX8 have that GFX5 doesn't and vice versa?

Really sorry if someone has asked this before cause I couldn't find it in this forum. If anyone knows the thread, kindly guide me...

Many thanks...
Very Happy

regards,
tang

here you go, hope this helps:

Quote:
  1. GFX-8 can't be powered up thru batteries, while GFX-5 can live up to 10 hours with 4 "AA" alkaline batteries.

  2. GFX-8 got so many 'cool' features that i don't think i'll be using 'em.

  3. GFX-5 has better modulation effects (chorus, tremolo, delay, phaser, etc).

  4. GFX-5 has 2 extra module than GFX-8 (Booster and Isolator/Compressor).

  5. GFX-5 got more variety of sounds for the Drive module (additional Turbo and Edge key for more tweaking options).

  6. GFX-5 is not so complicated compared to GFX-8.

But anyway, there are a few great features on the GFX-8 such as external send/return (to connect your own distortion pedal), MIDI in/out, connect to PC to get your custom distortion sound. Anyway, GFX-5 is a newer product and it's a simplified version of GFX-8 with some added features.

hehehe... Laughing anyway... member aku ada review pasal Zoom G9.2tt kat forum MetalTerus.. berikut inti patinya...

aloymetal wrote:
Harga: RM1790 (before discount)
Distributor: CK Music, Jln Imbi, KL

-amp simulator
-efx & modulation (delay, chorus, tremolo, pitch shifter... etc)
-cabinet

aku test G9 ni guna gitar Hamer + vox amp.
aku test preset je... dia punya sound memang warm. kalo tak cukup warm lagi... pulas knob 'tube' dia. tapi aku rasa sound dia agak mendap/ tak punchy... aku cuba pulas knob 'solid state'. mmm ada la timbul sikit... tapi masih tak cukup. pulas EQ & Presence... bingit plak jadinya tapi masih tak timbul. compressor... tak byk membantu.

efx/modulation dia... ok jgak. aku cuba patch yg ada pakai tweak pedal... best. kita buleh assign pedal tu utk delay + pitch shifter... best layan. wah + pitch shifter pun best. kita buleh set sama ada nak jadikan pedal bwh tu wah, pedal atas pitch shifter atau pedal bawah pitch shifter, pedal atas jadi wah. yg pedal bawah... tekan atas bawah la... yg pedal atas... tolak ke kanan utk 'tweak' kan efx tuh.

option utk cabinet dia... hanya ada micking punya option. nak letak mic berapa jauh dari amp & apa jenis mic nak pakai. mmmm... tak berapa berkesan option nih.

secara keseluruhannya... sound G9 ni agak sebu/mendap skit. tapi itu pada aku la... mungkin org lain suka sound camni. dia punya efx pada aku ok... aku pun tak berapa byk pakai efx. so kalo ada komen kata ZOOM ni sound kering... cuba lah G9... memang tak kering punya sound dia... cuma kurang menonjol je. yang istimewanya G9 ni berbanding efx2 lain pada harga ni... 3D pedal dia lah... syiok ooooo layan. tapi kalo nakkan tone yg best... distortion yg punchy & warm... better try GT8 / POD XTL.

biasa la, dia mat POD, mesti tak ngam punya dgn Zoom! heheh... setiap orang ada citarasa sendiri..

p/s: citarasa gua tak best, so jgn terpengaruh dgn rachun gua!

it depend on ur budget, if you ask me. kalo budget ko rm2000, GFX is crap ar. kalo bajet ko bwh rm1000... pun x braper best GFX tu, baik angkat POD 2.0 Razz senang nak record, bla, lba, bla...

just my opinion tho Wink

tapi pasal zoom yg siap tube tu aku sokong, worthy gak bli. but still, saingan dier kuat (PODxtl, GT-8, digitech...)

zid, kalau mat POD bg review macam tu, maknanya ZOOM G9 tu mmg best la.. kalau tak, mmg kena kutuk kow2 punya dgn mat POD.. ini dia siap puji2 lagi.. sound mendap tu, mungkin boleh setel kalau guna amp yg berbeza.. cuba main dgn amp fender yg bright tu!!

cool.. cool.. mcm menthos... Wink

ok back to the topic..

kalau budget bawah RM1000, kalau angkat POD biasa tu memang la bagus, tapi sesuai ke dgn situasi live? in this case, u nak kena beli floor board yg mahal, then nak tukar2 patch ada beberapa mili-second delay..

in terms of sound (namely drive sound) memang la bagus POD nih, tapi in terms of efx modules, patch change time (less than 5ms - fastest in the world?), mudah guna, etc, Zoom G series is a good option.. maybe sbb sound drive dia kureng berbanding competitor lain yg menyebabkan harga dia murah..

but one thing yg aku definitely suka dgn G-series ni ialah one of the modulation efx called Harmonized Pitch Shifter.. dulu aku pernah guna Zoom 3030, ada feature efx ni, tapi model2 lepas tu takde lak.. until they release the G-series.. aku tak pasti GT-8 ada tak, tapi PODxt Live definitely takde! you can easily play Iron Maiden's double harmonic leads with just one guitar + this efx!

not just normal pitch shifting efx.. it's HARMONIZED!
it adds another high/low note, harmonized to the note you're playing..
check out the following tab:

Code:
Normal: (efx off)
1 |-------|
2 |-------|
3 |-------|
4 |-------|
5 |---7---|
6 |-------|

Pitch Shifted (high E mode)
1 |-------|
2 |-------|
3 |-------|
4 |---5---|
5 |---7---|
6 |-------|

Pitch Shifted (low E mode)
1 |-------|
2 |-------|
3 |-------|
4 |-------|
5 |---7---|
6 |---8---|

kita bleh set apa base chord yg digunakan utk harmonize the notes..
cool huh?

senang cerita, cuba dgr Iron Maiden.. kebanyakan lagu dia kan guna double lead yg harmony.. so instead of playing with 2 guitars simultaneously, kita boleh guna efx ni utk replace the other guitar's note part... err paham tak?
