Hi deadzid (aka Guru Zoom),

You memang knowlegable for ZOOM products... thanks for your answers

Semalam I pergi Mid-Valley nampak G7.1ut ..... cantik tapi mahal... almost RM 1400 ! Hampir price BOSS GT-8 tapi Zoom itu ada tube-lah...

Belum try bunyinya kerana budget tak cukup. Susah mau fikir untuk beli benda tu sekarang.

Very Happy

I rasa hairan... kerana GFX5 lebih murah dan lebih baik daripada GFX8. I memang hendak try Zoom kerana mau combine dengan pedals aku.

Pedals yang aku ada sekarang:
- BOSS DS-2 distortion
- BOSS HM-3 metal (hyper metal pedal - RARE!)
- DOD FX-84 compressor
- DOD FX-66 fuzz
- Dunlop JH-1 Jimi Hendrix Wah
- Behringer HB-01 Hellbabe Wah
- Danelectro DJ-4 reverb
- Aria APE-4 delay, chorus, dist/overdrive
- My laptop - FXBox 2.4

Amps yang ada
- Peavey, Red Shadow, Vantage

Once I add Zoom to my collection of effects, I may get many variations.

Yeah!

Thanks to everyone else who reply as well

yes, this is the one.. tapi harga dia boleh beli Zoom G2.1u sebijik!

so combine harga PS-5 with POD = about RM1300 (betul ke? aku tak tau)
tambah floor board = baik beli PODxt Live?

jtangsw:
if you wanna combine your drive pedals (Boss DS-2 distortion, Boss HM-3 metal, DOD FX-66 fuzz) with Zoom efx, then you might wanna consider GFX-8 coz it has the external send / return jack which enables you to bypass the drive module on the GFX-8 and use your own drive pedals.

Boss GT8 also have the same feature, but it costs much more.. but still, the efx modules on GT8 are superb! i bet it has the harmonized pitch shifter also...

see what i mean? if u're on a tight budget, beli je la Zoom, tapi kalau ada duit banyak, better get something else.. Zoom is the alternative for poor musicians.. and Behringer also! Laughing

yeah, zid. Thanks for the great advice and insights for Zoom products.

I heard a lot about Zoom - and it produces great value for money products. Affordable and guaranteed satisfaction - if compared to the other brands of the same price range.

Zid, I also saw your post last time and you SOLD your precious pedals after you bought the zoom g2.1u ... WOW... can zoom really replace the VOX wah and alll those???

Errmm... I also heard that the GFX 5 has drum beats and GFX 8 doesn't. Is it true?

Is the drum beat for GFX 5 good? Really have to fikir baik-baik which one to get...

i'm not too sure about that, have you check out Korg's line of multi-efx yet? i heard they are good too..

NOT REALLY! honestly, the reason i change to multi-efx mainly because:
  1. i'm broke
  2. portability issue
  3. have to buy more pedals to complete my rig
  4. ease-of-use with multi-efx
  5. hums / noises / problems with single pedals
  6. have to get good expensive patch cables
  7. .. and the list goes on!

it was hard for me to let go the Tri-Metal distortion and Vox Wah coz those 2 are my favourite pedals in my rig! but i'm glad that on the G2.1u, it has the Vox Wah simulator and Tri-Metal distortion embedded inside this cute unit! maybe not as good as the original version, but i can live with that! c'mon.. do we really need that? seriously? anyway, i've uploaded some sound samples with drum beats recorded directly from GFX-5.. check it out: play or download

in conclusion, GFX-5 is better than GFX-8.. BUT, the drive module on both unit sucks big time! if you wanna use any external distortion pedal (and bypass the multi-efx's drive module), then get the GFX-8.. otherwise, GFX-5 is the right choice.

but i would defintely go for the newer models - the G series! get the G2.1u if you don't mind having only 2 switches to select patches..

Zid,

yup... I checked out some of the KORG Toneworks multi-fx at CK Music, KL. Price range is close to Zoom but design wise not as attractive. Heard that zoom is most popular and appeals to the wider audience. So, I'm not too much into KORG stuffs - maybe only its tuner...

G2.1u can give you the Vox Wah simulator...? Sounds like a good bargain cause that Vox wah isn't cheap... however, I bet the feel will not be as great as the legendary Vox wah... Guess you know that as well.

Btw, can the G2.1u give out the Dunlop Crybaby Classic (with Fasel Inductor) sound? If yes, then it's really a great buy.

Too bad, I missed your sale of pedals... really wanted to get the Vox Wah.

Anyways, I'm going over to California, US this month to check out what they have there. Heard that there's this shop called Sam Ash who carries lots of cool gadgets and guitars. Will check out Wal-mart and the pawn shops while I'm there also (if I have time to spare... cause going to Las Vegas as well)...

Very Happy

Oh ya... Got 2 more important questions for GFX8

a) Reverb fx good? - can get the BOSS RV-5 sound?

b) Delay fx good? - can get the BOSS DD-6 sound?

Hope someone can answer. I think I will go for the GFX8 cause I got a few distortion pedals...

now that's an imature post by a moderator aiye? Wink rilex bro, this is just a forum right?

should i explain all myself? adeh... i assume you can figure out the rest sebelum nie. i dont have to explain all about POD, korang sendiri dah tau pro n cons dier.

POD wil cost you rm650, a footswitch rm280, boss harmonizer rm550. tambah jer skit lagik duit tuh. tunggu jer la gaji bulan depan. total dalam rm1500, nak kene bersabar skit, then you'll satiesfied with your purchase. yes, aku nie pun jenis x berduit, gaji aku x sampai rm1000, hahaha, but everytime aku berbelanja, i'll make sure ill get the best. sabar tu penting.

please dont get me start about the G2.1u. the only good zoom IMO, the one with the tubes. other are good, not great, and lots of other options.

if you still want a 'zoom' product dalam list, there's zoom multieffect kaler purple... lupa nama model, yg tu rm300, cut cost dah. but if you want other alternative, try out digitech's GNX.

Memang betul! aku pun lupa yg POD 2.0 is being cheaper now .. but i think somebody should do head to head comparison between POD 2.0 dgn Zoom G2.1 and give a short review here.

If we look on the specification, i see that G series Zoom offers 32bits processing rate and up to 96Khz sampling rate and 24bit AD/Da converter.. Plus, it uses new version Chips which is way better then the chip inside the pre-G series product line, also offers USB interface with built in Drum Machine with 40 drum pattern.. for only around RM500 - WOW!

but from my pass reading, i believe the POD will outperfom the Zoom G series on the 'amp modelling' side, on the otehr hand, i also believe Zoom offers better effect processing and more variation. Hey.. remember the 24 bit processing and 96khz sampling rate! (but only if the new chip is really good!)

But i dont belong both of them and never testis them..hehe.. just rely on the spec yg aku baca jer..

finally, good sound/tone ni bgantung pada the ears of the beholder.. Its good to have many contra opinions here(thats a sign of thinking and believing) but please just take it easy..

alo bro, lama x chat, whats new?

yeah, the G2 thing offer a lot of features. but, bagi aku, sound quality dier la yg membuat aku dissapointed skit. but hey, just my opinion right?

and HELL YEAH, kalo pakai POD pun, tapi x reti carik sound, baik x payah. i mean, kalo the tone source dah ngam, tapi sengal gak, susah la, hehehe. im totally agree with you izzi Very Happy
