I wonder if anybody knows honest dealers who charge fair prices for musicians' products, gear and home-recording stuff.
I've been trying to buy some stuff recently but it's hard to know when one is getting a good deal or getting ripped.
specific example: I called a shop that regularly promotes itself in this forum to ask for Behringer B-2 Pro condensor microphone, they quote =RM1,1xx/- . I managed to get a dealer give me the same for RM750/- !!!!!!!!!
So anyway, back to my original question, does anybody know of genuine fair-price dealers?

well, it depends on the product actually.. more specific, the brand.
if you're looking for Behringers, you should look around jln Pasar (AV Electronics is the dealer).. Zoom, Korg, Line 6 - CK Music... M-Audio, Alesis - SMX (Berjaya Times Square)..
so what specific items are u looking for? _________________ > facebook

Tapi bagi aku kena tengok kedai jugak
Aku pernah mengalami byk kali, distributor jual lebih mahal dari kedai biasa
Walaupun kedai biasa tu ambil dari distributor tu
Beza dalam RM500 pulak tu
Gile besar dia punya gap
Alasan kedai jual mahal, dia org cakap kat Malaysia tak ramai org beli barang mcm ni
Tax kerajaan melampau
Tapi kenapa ade kedai yang jual barang sama harga dgn US bila didarab dengan 3.8?
Aku rasa kena buat directory untuk trusted stores didalam Malaysia
Kedai macam tu yang nak tolong orang macam kite
Bukan fikir profit semata²
Memang meniaga nak untung, tapi kalau melampau sangat, gile ar
Pengguna buat keputusan melalui harga
Tapi kalau buyer tu tak jumpa kedai murah, sure terpaksa beli gak |

I'm looking for a few items to help me record my songs:
i) a pair of studio headphones
ii) condensor microphone
iii) a GOOD analog distortion effects unit (My MesaBoogie V-Twin has excellent clean tones but the distorsion is not up to the mark)... I'm more into theMarshall-type sound, but can't have an amp 'cos my neighbours will be shitting in their beds, so need effects units which I can plug in direct to the PC.
But overall my original post was more towards asking if there are dealers one can trust, who knows what other items anybody might need, so if we had a list of trusted dealers, we could give them our regular business. |

i've already made the list at the top of this forum: Audio Recording - shopping directory.. i gues it has not been updated for a long time..
anyway, for headphones, i'd suggest Behringer's HPS-3000 or HPS-5000. For condenser mics, maybe Behringer B1, C1, etc (depends on your needs).. i guess you already know about those 2 products and which is the best, right?
now, about the third item, i definitely wanna suggest you Tech 21's SansAmp GT2. it's a great guitar preamp built specifically for direct recording (or in live situation, plug it directly to the mixer).. it has 3 amp modes - California (Mesa/Boogie), British (Marshall), and Tweed (Fender). plus u can tweak some more like the mic placement setting and tube modes. Check out Tech 21's website to hear some demo samples..
the retail price is very expensive - about RM740 but thank god there's Behringer! they cloned this product and name it GDI21 which is available to you for RM160! they even add in some more option: XLR out and ground lift switch (to eliminate ground loops).

Thanks for the suggestions, brudder! I've ordered the Behringer headphones HPS-5000, and just got the B-2 condensor mike. (just my luck, I got the B-2 a short time b4 I saw the message about cheaper condensor mikes coming)
BUT frankly, I would not use any Behringer product in my recording chain....just too "light" sound, even the B-2 mike I tried it today afternoon and it's just suitable for harmony vocals, it doesn't have the bite for heavy blues/rock type vocals........I hope the headphones turn out OK, but anyway they're just for monitoring while I record the vocals......
the SansAmp....err, I got rid of my PODxt becos I was unhappy with the digital modelling......I need a really GOOD Marshall-type rock sound....can the sansamp do it?

Denniss,
What "magic" word?????????
Every time I phone u for prices, you quote prices higher than other dealers, your 10% "discount" for "i-band memebrs" is, frankly, bullshit, becos if I go to any dealer and bargain I would get MUCH better discounts.... in fact, to buy product from your shop it is better to buy from your sub-agents, becos even after they make some profit on the deal, they charge much cheaper than buying from u direct!
as far as I am concerned, MIDI specialist is a con-man!
(I would NOT have mentioned u by name but u insist on advertising ur bizness in my thread so u have made yourself a fair target). |
