just curious.
aku kekadang cari lagu by ear..lagu senang boleh jumpa ler chord progression sesuai dia dia tapi ada lagu yg susah...memang fail ler..cari tak jumpa2.
to me i have to find the key of the song first, where major or minor, then baru predict the chrod progression to follow...and bab lagu tu major or minor ni sume memang kadang2 susah jugak for certain song...dunno if this is correct
then selalu sangkut kalau cari certain lagu yg chord progression dia tetiba ada weird chords progression tu...
and ada certain lagu tu walaupun start certain chord yg aku presume is the key for the song ..tapi bila apply scale key lagu tu utk solo around the song, tak masuk pulak...hmm
so any tips to share guys? apa cara paling efektif cari lagu other then google for the chords in the net...which i often do for fast results...hehe
and another thing - say we have a melody in our head and wanna put the chords for it. how do we know that we have to use major or minor for it?
any advice is appreciated...

kalau bab carik lagu ni
dulu zaman takde internet
aku duduk tepi radio la
asik rewind & play cassette sampai haus
aku takde teknik ke apa la
cuma makin banyak experience makin senang
kekadang kalau aku buntu sgt aku biar je
pastu nanti aku tgh baring-baring ke tetiba aku ade idea
kira cam lampu keluar kat atas kepala la
pengajarannya ada lah
kekadang kalau susah sgt kene backoff dulu, pastu baru carik balik
yang pasal melody dalam kepala tu
hmm...
sbb melody yang sama, main atas chords yang berbeza lain feel dia
so tgk la
kalau melody tu katalah ada Note E,B,D & G
kalau kita main G Major
Note E to akan menonjolkan bunyik 6th kalau kita stay lama la
lepas tu kalau kita habiskan kat Note D kira dia balik to the Chord Note
kalau main chord E Minor, Note D tu akan menonjolkan bunyi 7th lak
so color dia dah jadi lain, mood lain, feel lain
even kalau kita main E Major & main melody yang sama
still boleh masuk, lagi-lagi kalau kita bend kat sikit G ke arah G#
bunyi kearah bluesy E7
so jawapan dia
feel apa kah yang kita mahu dari melody itu
make sense tak apa aku ckp ni? hehe |

ni mesti bangsa main gitar dah lama sangat nih sampai dah tahap dewa boleh kenal bunyi.
Tapi bagi aku pon ada masalah yang sama ... cuma ikut style kita lah nak main camana . Nak ikut betul2 tak larat ...
Ataupun ... kalau ada pakai sound card audigy , boleh play lagu slow motion. boleh dengar mana satu dia tekan |

khairold, kita memang sezaman laaaa...hehhehehehe.
Aku pun selalu bancaikan kesset yang dibeli sebab dok rewind play sebab nak carik lagu. Tapi ada satu masalah aku, memula carik lagu masa form3 dulu adalah guitar aku tak tuning standard... mula lah lagu key g jadi G#. orang main kat Dm aku start kat Cm... gilos sungguh sehingga lah aku diajar utk tuning standard... hahahhah
Sebenarnya kalo aku, aku lebih suka carik lagu punya chord dulu. atlease boleh di struming kat guitar kapok dulu. Bila dah tau chord mudah la nanti nak teka scaling yang perlu digunakan. Tapi kebanyakan nya cara nak carik lagu mestinya dari pengalaman sebab dok giler rewind keset. Ada progression musik yang mudah diingat oleh otak kita macam lagu blues 3 chord, or harmonic minor. Sesambil kita memahami teori music, style music dan bla bla, kita juga kene carik banyak lagu. Setiap lagu yang kita carik sure ader pengalaman baru. maybe lagu 1 or 2 memula dulu adalah lagu paling susah kita carik. tapi lepas tu maybe jadi senang skit.

hehe...sume otai ni...samalah kita ol skool...aku pun pernah cari lagu pakai kaset dulu...bunyi keletuk keletak dok tekan rewind forward...last2 player tu puyne rew / fwd button pun nak loose or tercabut...
tengok ler cerita Rockstar yg Marky Mark berlakon tu...kan ada scene awal tu yg dia rewind kaset payer dia utk dengar solo band yg depa nak cover tu...samalah tu...zaman kaset.
la ni cari lagu pakai mp3 player dok jenuh tekan mouse...hehe...(unless if you guys can rekemen me a software yg boleh automatic kasi chord lagu...sure best..ada ka?)
hmm..so memang takde simple formula kot utk cari lagu? aku ni kalau cari lagu tapi tak jumpa2...memang senang give up...kekadang dgr bass note pun still tak sure bunyi dia, esp lagu yg bass dia banyak bunga and chord progression dia tak macam yg normal tu...
Anyways, back to my early question - betul ke kalau lagu tu start dgn chord C, kita boleh 100% cakap yg lagu tu is in the key of C...or it still depends on the overall chord progression and not the first chord of the song??
coz aku mmg tak faham bab ni. somebody boleh share some light? |

ehh zaman skarang masih ada lagi yg carik lagu pakai kaset... rewind, play, rewind, play, sampai hancur radio, beli lain (kaset player skarang dah murah, RM30 boleh dapat)...
aku dulu pakai teknik "rewind/play" gak masa sebelum teknologi mp3 ni berkembang.. pernah sampai tahap aku tensen tak dapat note solo tu, aku humban walkman tu ke dinding wahahaha! berkecai!
skarang ni aku convert mp3 ke format wave file, bukak kat audio software mcm Sound Forge, then buleh slow kan tempo... mudah dan tak tensen!

aku tak tau cari lagu! aku pemalas baca tab! ehhee
so tapi kalau orang ajar aku (tunjuk depan mata camne nak main first few chords) aku cepat tangkap haha..

you can use both major or minor for it...it depends how you want your song to sound ...example ...
just say you got a melody in C major ..
and your melody goes something like
C.........B.........Bb
1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4
First you can use C Chord for the "C" note ...
then ..at "B" note..you can use a Cmaj7 ( Major) Chord or Em (minor) Chord ..
then at "Bb" ..you can use a C7 (Major) Chord or Gm ( Minor) Chord
its up to you whatever sound nice 
as for tip for hearing down the Chord progression..
all i can say is to play more ..
you will realize Church players can figure out a Chord very effectively because they are expose to 100000000 Church songs which carries 10000000 different type of Chord progression..and they are familiar with it ..
just like what mrmerell said ..tahap dewa boleh kenal bunyi
i used to practise ..turning on Mix Fm (radio..because their music is unpredictable) ..for every song ..figure out the Chord progression then melody..do it 1 hour a day for maybe 3 months? then you'll be fine

as for this..In my opinion ..its not the scale..but how you use the scale to sound "in" ..cheers

aku kalau baca tab rasa mcm sengal.. juling mata..
aku biasanya perlu dengar lagu tu sampai habis beberapa kali sampai aku boleh gambarkan progression dia.. dan boleh ingat sikit2 melodi dia.
Bila melodi dah melekat sikit2 dalam kepala, then aku cari key lagu dan cari basic progression guna satu note jer (mcm main bass)..
Tapi ada jugak beberapa part yg susah dan tak berapa sure, so aku akan cari tab.. biasanya tgk tab utk beberapa bhg dlm lagu tu terutamanya chord yg tak familiar atau solo yg guna teknik yang aku tak tahu mcmana nak buat. Biasanya lepas dah dpt lagu tu, aku akan ubah2 solo dia ikut suka aku sendiri.
kelebihan cari guna telinga ialah kita dpt main dgn style kita dan tak terkongkong untuk main sebijik dan copy bulat2..

aku start dgn era tab.. so, mmg pernah dulu dependent gila ngan tab.. tp skang ni lebih kepada telinga + ubah sesedap rs.. tp ade part yg x bleh cr, mmg kena rujuk tab..
however basically kena ader basic scales, modes n faham music key.. kalo x.. mmg sampai tua la rujuk tab..
