The planet's most gifted guitarist Guthrie Govan has released his first album......
its called Erotic Cakes....
here are some comments from guitar players:
THE ARTIST AND THE ALBUM.
Having many times being called the finest guitar player to have graced the planet, Guthrie Govan is set to turn the guitar playing world on its head.
'Erotic Cakes' is a listening and inspirational jewel. Guthrie's exquisite playing will undoubtedly become the bench mark for Guitar. Equally Seth Govan and Pete Riley have raised the bar with their Bass and drum virtuosity. The performances here are truly amazing. The one thing that will separate this recording from the mainstream is the musicality of the song writing and the production.
Here are some kind words about Guthrie from some amazing players we really respect and whos music we love.
Richie Kotzen:
Guthrie Govan can do anything he wants as a guitarist. He has total command over the instrument; I love to watch Guthrie live as he always plays something new that the rest of us would never have thought of. He is truly a gifted musician and I am honored to be a part of Guthrie's 1st album.
(Guest solo from Richie on "Ner Ner")
Greg Howe:
Guthrie is a brilliant guitarist whose super high level of proficiency does not seem to be limited to any one particular genre or style
Dweezil Zappa:
Every time I hear Guthrie play I feel like I have to fasten my seatbelt. He is an alien. His technique and execution is staggering. Ultimately what is most impressive about him is his musicality. He has total freedom on guitar... BASTARD!
Rob Balducci:
Guthrie is the most versatile guitarist/musician I have ever heard. His music reaches new heights and he can be one scary technical monster or be the sweetest thing you tasted.
Bumblefoot, a.k.a. Ron Thal:
I've known Guthrie since the days before email, when we'd write each other trading riffs. In the past years, we'd have long jams at NAMM conventions in California, and gigged together in the UK. And for all these years, I, and the rest of the world-wide guitar community have harassed him incessantly to please please release a full-length CD. Well, he's done it, and it's inspiring and mind-blowing and beautiful, as expected. Guthrie is the most-talented guitarist I've ever known,a great friend, and I'm honored to havecontributed to his album. Thank you Guthrie, for the wonderful music and all you are.
(Guest solo from Ron on "Rhode Island Shred") _________________ www.myspace.com/hazmin90 |

Just listened to the album in my car.
Back in the 80's, as a kid, I remember the first time I listened to EVH on the '1984' album...Jake E. Lee on 'Bark at the Moon'...and Yngwie's 'Marching out'. These came as a shock to my system compared to their contemporaries. As guitar playing advanced to a much higher level of technique, I somehow have not experienced anything else that gave me the same impact as the ones above (probably due to so many extremely impossible shredders around now, it's hard for anyone to really stand high enough above the rest.)
I'm so happy to say that 'Erotic Cakes' brought back the same delightful shock factor that I havent experienced in years.
The first time I saw him play was when I was queueing up to try out Patrick Eggle guitars in the British Music Fair in London...he was right before me and when he played, the rest of the queue decided to not play out of embarrassment...and awe...with all our jaws dropped. Mick Sweeney of Yamaha was there too...and cheekily said..."err...excuse me...you're not really a beginner aren't you?"
The next thing I knew was seeing his face on the cover of Guitarist Magazine winning the Guitarist of the year contest...and the rest was history.
I've been waiting for this album since that time (that makes it about 14-15 years perhaps?).And it's been worth all the wait.
Thanks Guthrie...for carrying on the torch that was previously carried by Hendrix, EVH, Yngwie etc. etc. into the future of guitar virtuosity |

Some other comments about Guthrie from famous guitarists:
Whitesnake's Doug Aldrich just received a copy and the following is what he had to say:
"I just recieved Guthie's new record 'Erotic Cakes' and I am floored! It's been a long time since I heard playing and a record that cool. Amazing songs and sick playing from the whole band on every track. The song 'Waves' is on my daily playlist now. It's one of those melodies that you won't forget and you will crave to hear again and again. I had the pleasure to meet Guthrie on tour in '05 and aside from being one of the most gifted players I have heard, he is just a top guy. Nice one Guthrie!....Thank you bro!"
Hey Ed heres a good guote from MR SATRIANI,
"Paul,
Totally freakin awesome!!! Tell Guthrie and Jan this CD put a grin on my face a mile wide.
Joe"

Unfortunately, presently, the album can only be bought from this site:
http://www.cornfordrecords.com/index.php
I'm not familiar with using paypal and stuff...but I was lucky that my bro in law bought it via the website while he was in the UK and he just got back to Malaysia |

Dunno man...I love every track for each own's character! I always listen to this album from beginning to end without fail.
And you're right gaps about torrent-ing Guthrie...he's just coming out to the world and we dont wanna discourage him with poor CD sales secondary to piracy. We should be able to do the paypal thingy from M'sia right? I can see Malaysia in the drop down menu. |

yeap.you can paypal from Malaysia but i don't think many people even bother to register one ..but i think each of us can play our own role..by not burning it and giving it to a friend ...
alot of shredders forum (usually upload shred CDs to rapidshare) bann users who upload guthrie..good things are still happening
freqZz : you can go to youtube and find guthrie's video..
i think he have 3 or 4 songs floating there...but of course the album contains the real thing _________________ gapnap.com

You can register on Guthrie's forum and there is a specific forum of soundclips of his playing in the media section...this will give a taste of his playing...but make sure you listen to ALL of them because each clip represents a specifically different genre of music which he can play...then will you only be aware of his true versatility.
But of course to appreciate his songwriting and arranging skills and his musicality, only his album will showcase that. |
